[Industrial hygiene and the health status of workers on track power-driven equipment].

The study has revealed the leading poor occupational factors in workers of railroad power-driven stations, shows their nutritional status and pattern, and specific features of morbidity. It gives recommendations to optimize the alimentary status, to ensure the sanitary and epidemiological well-being and health of the workers.

[The research achievements and prospects in the field of railroad medicine in providing traffic safety].

Experience in ensuring safe traffic at the All-Russian Research Institute of Railway Hygiene is summarized. Various aspects of this line of activities, such as medicopsychological professional selection, medical examination of engine-drivers, training how to behave in emergency, etc., are considered. Some new medical problems in ensuring safe traffic are presented.

[Clinical and hygienic aspects of asbestos-induced lung diseases].

The outcomes of 31 operations made in patients with asbestos-induced lung cancer and mesothelioma are considered; the relationships of age, lengths of services, and occupation to the occurrence of diseases are analyzed. A phenomenological concept of development of asbestos-induced cancer diseases is proposed. The functional and morphological features of the course of the disease have been established. Recommendations on the prevention and treatment of abnormalities are given.

[Main factors of occupational risk for railway workers].

The paper shows the specific features of development of occupational diseases associated with the classes of working conditions by the degree of hazard and risk. It provides a scientifically founded evidence for that the indicators of a potential risk of working conditions should be included into the methodology of assessment of a professional risk.
