[Value of pendulum-like oculonyorhythms and myorhythms of other muscles for prognosis of restoration of cerebral cortical function following hypoxia].

In clinical and EEG studies of 92 patients where the preterminal and terminal states were arrested it was possible to demonstrate that the phenomenon of a spontaneous discharge of pendulum-like oculomyorhythms and myorhythms of the orbital muscles is a significantly negative sign pointing to irreversible cortical lesion. Conditioned by oculomyorhythm the artefacts seen in the EEG of comatose patients simulate an intactness of the brain electroactivity and are a source of an erroneous evaluation of the EEG.
