[Ochratoxin A contamination of cereal grain harvested in 2003 and 2004 years].

The analysis of ochratoxin A--mycotoxin produced by widely distributed Aspergillus and Penicillium--of cereal grain harvested in 2003 - 2004 years were performed by immunoaffinity column clean-up and HPLC with fluorescence detection. This survey examined 282 samples of raw grain wheat, rye, barley and oat 13.8% of all samples contaminated by ochratoxin A in the range 0.2-33.3 mg/kg. Calculation made on the basis of the obtained means showed that the daily ochratoxin A intake of human from cereal grain were from 1.58 to 2.84 ng/kg b.w. Scientific Committee for Food of the European Commission suggested that it was prudent to reduce exposure to ochratoxin A as much as possible below 5 ng/kg bw/day. Codex Alimentarius and European Commission have established maximum permissible level of 5 mg/kg for ochratoxin A in raw cereal grains.

[Ochratoxin A content in baby food].

The purpose of this study was to investigate the ochratoxin A content in baby food. The analysis of ochratoxin A were performed by immunoaffinity column clean-up and HPLC with fluorescence detection. The detection limit was 0.2 mg/kg. Ochratoxin A was detected in 22.5% of 40 samples up to 1.2 mg/kg. Mean level was 0.15 and 0.31 mg/kg. Ochratoxin A level was higher in oat-based samples. Calculations made on the basis of the obtained means showed that the daily ochratoxin A dietary intake were up to 1.72 ng/kg b.w.

[Tea and coffee consumption among Russian population].

Aim of present study was the getting data on black and green tea and coffee consumption among Russian population in 1995-2003. The consumption of beverages tea and coffee was estimated by 24-hour recall of dietary intake in course of Russian Longitudinal monitoring surveys of economics and health. About 82% of population have consumed the black tea and only 2.2%--the green tea. Mean daily black and green tea intake among all population were 446 ml and 10 ml, correspondingly. The prevalence of black tea consumption was decreased and green tea and coffee consumption were increased from 1995 to 2003.

[Food supplements and medicines of vegetative origin. Safety estimation and standardization].

The article describes the modern legislative and normative base of both Russian made and foreign made food supplements turnover. The main requirements to them. The reasons for banning the use of some particular ingredients in food supplements formula are substantiated. The ways of improving the normative base for food supplements as well as for medicines of vegetative origin are proposed. The conclusion is made, that this base is more perfect than for the medicines, produced from herbs.

[Clinical use of flavonoid enriched biologically active food supplements in patients with chronic atrophic gastritis in combination with chronic cholecystitis or bile ducts dyskinesia].

60 patients with chronic atrophic gastritis and secretory insufficiency allied with chelicobacterial infection in combination with chronic unlithic cholecystitis or diskinesia of choledoch ways were explored with a view to study the efficiency of dietary cure including biologically active food supplements--flavonoids source. Fortification of the patients food intake with flavonoids-containing biologically active food supplements benefits mucous membrane of gastroduodenal zone that is evidenced in decrease of activity of pyloric chelicobacteriosis and resolvent and reparative effect, it also contributes to normalization of hepatobiliaric system condition and antioxidant status.

[Monitoring of food products from genetically modified sources in Moscow].

This paper presents results of a detection of genetically modified organisms (GMO) in food from the shops of Moscow. The screening methods and event-specific assay based on the polymerase chain reaction is used. Transgenic DNA from genetically modified soybeans line 40-3-2 is detected in 17.2% samples of studied foods. Soybeans line 40-3-2 is allowed in Russian food supply.

[To the history about nutrition science].

The article is dedicated to the history of nutrition science. On a number of ancient examples the authors show, how old nutrition science is and how its main tasks, which haven? t yet lost their significance are reflected. Namely, the problems of rational nutrition and food safety aspects.

[Risk assessment of adverse environmental factors affecting the health of the Russian population by the Russian State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance].

In the article there are adduced the practical aspects of realization of a concept of risk evaluation of the adverse environment factors influencing the health of the Russian population by the State Service of Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance. Epidemiological data on the influence of the most spread free air contaminants is summarized and a matter of monitoring food products safety is considered. There are outlined arrangements for the successful application of the evaluation of risk of the different environment factors influencing the populations health to practical activities of the State Service of Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance of Russia.

[Medical-biological evaluation of genetically-modified sugar beet line 77 (chemical composition and toxicologico-biochemical studies)].

The rats were fed with the Genetically Modified Sugar Beet line 77 (Monsanto Ko, USA) 10 g/rat/day for 1 month. Their blood, urea and liver were investigated to measure total protein and glucose levels, aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase activities, pH, creatinine level as well as hepatic enzyme activity of the I and II phases of xenobiotic metabolism and whole and non-sedimentated lysosomal enzyme activities and activity of antioxidant system.

[Limiting the allowable concentration of zearalenone in processed grain products].

The distribution zearalenon (ZL) in products of processing of contaminated wheat, barley and maize grains was is investigated. Results of the data analysis on the investigation of an actual nutrition of the population in Russia is presented; the share of products of processing of contaminated wheat, barley and maize grains as part of the total ration was determined Varied values of Maximum Acceptable Concentration (MAC) of ZL based on the obtained results are offered: 1 mg/kg--for wheat, barley and maize grains; 0.2 mg/kg--for main products of grain processing, viz flour and groats. The application of these MAC-values for ZL ensures the conformity between the ones for raw materials and for products of processing of raw materials, as well as the limitation of the maximum possible ZL--intake within the bounds of Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) for a man.
