[Management of an impacted canine tooth in the palate].

The abundance of scientific articles about current dental movements such as intrusion, space closure, uprighting ... is in contrast with the rarity of those concerning palatal impacted canine. The goal of this article is to emphasize upon frequent hazards of this dysmorphosis which often generate litigations and to suggest an original classification of favorable and unfavorable clinical situations and a simplified mechanotherapy.

[Constraints of means, technics and results in orthodontics?].

Like all health professionals, Orthodontic Physicians, are constantly seeking or are urged to obtain the best therapeutic results possible by their professional bodies such as Universities, Learned societies, Ordre des Medecins and Professional Associations and by extra-professional bodies such as the Social Security, the Law, the Media and the general Public. The divergence between technical progress and patient care resources is currently creating tension in all western countries; thereby producing difficulties in conditions of practice.

[Medical responsibility in dentomaxillofacial orthodontics].

Whilst the vital prognosis is rarely threatened in dento-maxillo-facial orthopaedic procedures, the responsibility of practitioners involved in this discipline is nevertheless an everyday consideration from both a medical as well as an orthodontic standpoint (1 and 2). Although the number of actions brought with the Social Security, the Ordre des Medecins and the courts remains limited, it is reasonable to expect a predictable worsening of the situation due to the recent increase in the complexity of monodisciplinary and multidisciplinary techniques, in particular in adults (3). The prevention of complications and accidents must obviously be based upon solid professional training and increased vigilance in the surveillance of treatment.

[Proprioceptive sensitivity and orofacial functions].

Proprioceptive sensibility from stimulation of muscle, ligament articular and vestibular receptors plays a determining role in the regulation of tone, of the resting position of the mandible, of head posture and of the closure pathway of the mandible. Studies conducted on temporomandibular joints of fetuses and adult subjects failed to demonstrate the specialized corpuscles (a fact previously noted by Ramfjord) in the temporomaxillary joint capsule, described typically in other joints. In contrast, however, histology showed a particularly rich population of muscle receptors adjacent to this joint, this being only one of several particular characteristics.
