[Comprehensive therapy of obstructive jaundice with neoplastic origin].

The authors treated 67 patients with jaundice on the ground of biliopancreatoduodenal tumors. Of them, 49 underwent the palliative operations. In 31 patient, the conventional two-stage treatment was employed. The postoperative complications occurred in 28.6% of the patients. The lethality was 20.8%. Examination for 1-3 days, intensive preoperative preparation, antibacterial prophylaxis, regional chemotherapy were performed in 18 patients. The incidence of postoperative complications in these patients was 11.2%, the lethality--5.6%.

[Enhancement of the antitumor effect of cyclophosphane in an experiment].

A significant antitumor effect of acetylcellulose microsphere-encapsulated cyclophosphamide was observed in the course of the studies carried out in 105 male Wistar rats bearing Walker's carcinosarcoma and PC-1 carcinoma. The effect is due to a high tissue level of the drug maintained for a long time as the drug uniformly passes through the porous microsphere wall. Local (intratumoral) treatment with cyclophosphamide is more effective than standard methods. The inhibitory effect of microsphere-enclosed cyclophosphamide on neoplastic growth is potentiated by tumor ischemia.

[Use of endothelial protector Softel in surgery of the anterior eye segment].

Endothelium protector SOFTEL is developed by Ekran firm and Institute of Eye Diseases, Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. The drug was used in 157 patients aged 28-79 years. Perforating keratoplasty for corneal leukoma and keratoconus was carried out in 46 patients, cataract extraction with implantation of intraocular lens (IOL) in 94, and cataract extraction without IOL implantation in 17 patients. Two patients developed slight hypertension in the postoperative period, which resolved within 24 h, and four patients developed moderate corneal edema persisting for 1-2 days postoperation. The protective effect of softel is compatible with that of its foreign analog Healon. The drug is effective in cataract extractions with IOL implantation and perforating keratoplasty.
