The device and algorithm for estimation of the mechanoemisson chaos in blood of patients with gastric cancer.

The mechanoemission (ME) of blood is developed as a result of mechanochemical activation of a sample which is layered onto chromatographic paper. This paper describes computer-controlled device, aimed for generation, detection and analysis of ME data in the blood of the persons investigated. The original algorithm for estimation of ME chaos in blood is developed. For gastric cancer patients an increase of ME chaos is observed in comparison with healthy individuals and patients with inflammation of gastric mucosa. The concept of deterministic chaos is biohierarchical for the host of a cancer patient. In the light of this we have calculated that spatial chaos for gastric cancer patients is also increased in the geometrical structure of tumor cells and magnetic resonance imaging of the stomach. The concept of deterministic chaos may find an application in the development of new multi-computer organizations for medical diagnostic equipment.

[Singlet oxygen therapy].

Physico-chemical concept of the singlet oxygen therapy application using photochemically sensibilized air or drinking a water, already barbaturized by an activated singlet oxygen of air, is adduced. Therapy technology and examples of its clinical application in the treatment of several pathologic processes for the free-radicals correction are depicted.

Mechanochemiemission and atherogenesis.

Haemodynamic factors activate mechanochemiemission between the surfaces of vessels and blood cells, i.e. optical, acoustic, heat and radioemissions which initiate formation of lipid peroxide radicals causing vascular wall damage. Subsequent development of mechanochemiemission reactions in lipids results in formation of atherosclerotic plaques in the arterial intima.

[Lymphocyte mechanoluminescence].

A unique installation and an original investigation method are described for studying mechanoluminescence of lymphocytes. The spectral content of mechanoluminescence of lymphocytes of human peripheral blood showed maxima of optical emission at 262, 291, 335 and 412 nm. Intraperitoneal administration of hydrocortisone in mice enhances thymocyte mechanoluminescence intensity after 2 and 3 days by 33 and 62%, resp. It is shown that Acridine orange, reacting with murine thymocytes and their nucleoids, affects intensity of their mechanoluminescence, depending on the value of concentration of the injected intercalator.

Mechanoluminescence: an assay for lymphocyte analysis in neoplasia.

We have studied the mechano-electrochemical activation of optical emission (mechanoluminescence, ML) from the surface of lymphocytes. In C57BL/6 mice with B16 melanoma at the terminal stage of tumour growth and after immunotherapy with thymic agents, there is a correlation between light emission and the value of lymphocyte surface charge and titres of thymic serum factor (FTS).

[Blood triboluminescence in patients with cancer of the proximal stomach and esophagus].

Total triboluminescence, i.e. optic radiation induced as a result of mechanic activation of venous blood in a TPA-2 triboluminometer, was measured in patients with cancer of the gastric cardia and esophagus, and in healthy subjects. The parameter was assessed in control water samples, too. In the 252-649 nm range, five bands of emission were registered with peaks at 262, 280, 360, 422 and 649 nm subject to variation in certain segments of blood spectrum. Triboluminescence of the venous blood at 280 nm determines for the total triboluminescence registered in the entire spectrum. The triboluminescence of capillary blood at 302 and 418 nm calculated using K coefficient facilitates differentiating between inflammation and cancer. This express test takes less than 1 minute and requires a small blood sample (0.02 ml). The accuracy proved 88%.

[A method of measuring the triboluminescence of blood using the TRA-2 rapid analyzer].

The procedure of triboluminescent analysis of blood lipid peroxidation processes using TRA-2 express analyzer is described. 0.02 ml of the blood is sufficient for analysis that takes 40 seconds; all the measurements are automated, no laboratory assistants participate here; no special chemical reagents are necessary. Results of laboratory clinical trials evidence good prospects of employing this method for the differential diagnosis between oncologic and inflammatory diseases.

[An experimental analysis of the interrelation of the kinetics of spontaneous blood serum chemiluminescence and of the kinetics of the tumor process].

On the material of 5 strains of transplanted rat tumours (sarcoma 45, carcinoma Guérin, carcinosarcoma Walker, lymphosarcoma Pliss, erythromyelosis Shvets) and also mice tumours induced by Moloney and Rauscher viruses and on the models of chemical carcinogenesis of rats: lung (intratracheal injection of 3,4-benz(a)pyrene), breast (DMBA) and liver DENA) was shown that tumorous processes of various origin are accompanied by either elevation or inhibition of blood serum spontaneous chemiluminescence (SChL). In all investigated cases the extreme points of SChL curve coincide with the moment of change of tumour growth kinetics.

[Relation of spontaneous chemiluminescence, electrochemiluminescence and resistance of blood serum in patients with cancer of the proximal part of the stomach and esophagus].

The levels of spontaneous chemoluminescence of serum in patients with cancer of the proximal part of the stomach and the esophagus were found to be 2-6 times the age-connected norm. The said concentrations decreased by half following radiation treatment, to rise by 75% after surgery. At later periods after surgery, chemoluminescence levels dropped almost to normal unless complications developed. However, in patients with gastroesophageal cancer, the level of spontaneous chemoluminescence remained high over a long period of time. Variation patterns were identical, with an amplitude being significantly lower. Changes in blood serum resistance were insignificant. Scale factor K varied in the range of 6-66. In cases of purulent complications, spontaneous chemoluminescence levels showed a sharp rise, the values of K exceeding 75. This pattern made it easier to differentiate between inflammatory lesions and neoplasia.

[Spontaneous blood serum chemiluminescence in detecting recurrences and metastases of cancer of the proximal portion of the stomach and esophagus].

The report deals with the results of examination of 48 healthy donors and 261 patients suffering from malignant tumors of cardia and esophagus, 84 patients after radical surgery included. Spontaneous chemoluminescence (CL) of blood serum was shown to depend on the general condition of the patient and tumor involvement before treatment: there is a direct correlation between these factors and luminescence intensity. Therefore, CL may be used as a laboratory test providing necessary information for developing treatment modality for each individual case. Within 0.5-60 months after radical treatment, the rise in the intensity of blood serum CL (60-100% and more) was registered in cases of pyo-inflammatory complications (peritonitis, mediastinitis, pleural empyema, etc.) and recurrence and metastatic spreading. A rise in CL intensity by more than 50% and a steady tendency to further increase may be interpreted as a pointer to recurrence or metastasis development.

[Spontaneous blood serum chemiluminescence in patients with cancer of the esophagus and proximal portion of the stomach].

Based on the maternal pertaining to 193 patients with cancer of the esophagus and proximal gastric portion, 22 patients with non-tumor diseases of the stomach and esophagus, 19 donors (aged 18-25 years) and 10 practically healthy subjects aged 34-67 years, it was found that tumor invasion of the stomach body and the presence of such aggravating factors as grade IV dysphagia, inflammatory complications etc. are associated with a significantly increased intensity of serum chemiluminescence. Anesthesia and other factors as a concomitant of surgery reduce considerably the level of blood serum chemiluminescence during the operation, whereas an intensive postoperative therapy retains its initial level. The development of complications during the operation and after it is accompanied with 1.5--2 times or more increased luminescence. Radical surgical and combined treatment would condition the normalization of the luminescence. Radiation treatment first increases and then decreases the luminescence down to normal values.

Mechanoluminescence: lymphocyte analysis after exposure to ionizing radiation.

Lymphocyte mechanoluminescence (ML) develops as a result of mechanochemical activation of cells. This paper describes devices (tribogenerators) and techniques for lymphocyte mechanoluminescence analysis. At different stages of the cellular cycle the ML of non-irradiated peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) showed characteristic differences. After (60)Co gamma -irradiation of PBL in vitro at 0.25 Gy and 1 Gy an alteration of ML was observed with a relationship between ML values of lymphocytes, and also of mitochondria (MT), and the dose of ionizing radiation used. By using bioluminescence techniques it was shown that gamma-irradiation reduces the amount of ATP synthesized by PBL in the stationary phase.

Physical dosimetry and biological indicators of carcinogenic risk in a cohort of persons exposed to unhealthy ecological factors following the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident.

The April 1986 Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident caused ecological changes in the Ovruch State forests in the Zhytomir oblast in the Ukraine. The highest radioactivity existed in moss, followed by the pine-forest substrate and soil. During 1984-1985, the pine needles were primarily surface contaminated, whereas during 1986-1988, they were contaminated secondarily. Radioactivity in air was highest (1.07+/-0.185 Bq/l) during dry and sunny weather and when trees were felled; the lowest levels (0.196+/-0.044 Bq/l) occurred during periods of stable snow coverage. Between 1987 and 1989 (i.e., after the Chernobyl accident), the caesium levels in forestry employees exceeded by 13.9-fold the average levels found in the Ukrainian Polessje population. Ovruch forest guards and woodcutters had the highest effective equivalent doses of radiation, and they therefore exhibited the highest carcinogenic risk.

[The triboluminescence of the blood and the brain cellular elements in rats exposed to X irradiation in doses causing bone marrow, intestinal and cerebral syndromes].

Triboluminescence of blood and brain cells (neurons and neuroglia) in bone marrow, intestinal and cerebral radiation syndromes has been investigated. Dynamics of triboluminescence intensity of neurons and glial cells after irradiation (0.013, 0.31 and 3.87 C/kg) is the same with that of blood triboluminescence.
