[Clinical features of messianic delusions in schizophrenic spectrum disorders].

Clinical features of messianic delusions in endogenous psychoses have been retrospectively studied in 75 patients (33 male, 42 female, aged 16-62 years, illness duration from 0.5 to 39 years) with diagnosis paranoid schizophrenia, continuous type (F20.00)--18 patients, attack like progressive type (F20.02)--17 patients, schizoaffective disorder (F25)--27 and acute polymorphic psychotic disorder (F23.03)--13. Being a kind of delusion of grandeur, messianic delusion is characterized by destruction of "self" as break with the past experience, transformation to mythological characters (total depersonalization) and assignment of supernatural power. Its content is similar to apocalyptical, mystical, antagonistic (Manicheam) delusions. Formation of the delusion plot occurred in the framework of hallucinate-paranoid syndrome received its greatest expression in the structure of paraphrenic and oneiroid syndromes. The volume of its content, duration and mechanisms of delusion formation (hallucinative, sensual and delusion of imagination) were defined by a form of schizophrenic psychosis. Sometimes such patients confer social danger and demand more attention from psychiatrists.

[Clinical aspects of witchcraft delusions].

To distinguish clinical variants and to specify nosologic entity of witchcraft delusions, 69 patients (10 males, aged 15-72 years) have been examined. It was found that witchcraft delusions exist in passive and active forms. In a passive form, the patient is sure that unknown (mystic) power damaged him/her; in an active form the patient, possessing a gift for unusual abilities, can influence the others (bewitches, heals, etc). Five clinical syndromes, in the structure of which the above delusions were found, namely, paranoiac-hypochondriac, hallucination-paranoid, depressive-paranoid, paraphrenic and delirious, were identified. Psychoses of schizophrenia spectrum were diagnosed in 52 patients, organic--in 8, alcoholic--in 7 and recurrent depressive disorder--in 2. Clinical significance of witchcraft delusions is closely related to its social aspect. Being combined with ideas of persecution, poisoning and damage, it results in the brutal forms of delusions defense and may be considered as an unfavorable prognostic trait.

[Linguo-statistical indices of speech production of schizophrenics].

Using a linguostatistical method of examination, the author analyzed texts produced by 19 patients with the delirious syndrome, 20 patients with the hallucinational-delirious syndrome and 112 healthy subjects. On the basis of protocols in which those examined gave written definitions of 10 notions, 3 frequency alphabetic lists have been made up for each group of the patients and normal individuals. It has been established that verbosity, vagueness of definition and inadequate differentiation of the main and secondary signs are objectively manifested in the schizophrenic patients in an increase of a relative richness of vocabulary and of the proportion of rarely used words. Redistribution of parts of speech expressed in diminution of the proportion of verbs because of the predominance of pronouns and adverbs is explained by a reduced ability to formulate utterances, probably due to autism.

["Search strategy" in solving verbal logic problems by schizophrenic patients].

In a solution of logical tasks of a deductive character by normals and patients with paranoid schizophrenia, the latter find solutions in less than half of the cases. They attract a great amount of questions, the character of which are more concrete with an accent on "weak" signs rather than general. The patients do not display adequate plans in solving such tasks, the search of the semantic field is narrow. Assumingly there is a disorder of the structure and ierarchy of information kept in the brain.
