[Features of the effect of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids on lipid metabolism, lipoproteins, and development of ischemic heart disease].

The effect of saturated, mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acid on lipid, lipoprotein metabolism and ischaemic heart disease is reviewed. Optimal effect on lipid and lipoprotein metabolism and prevention of ischemic heart disease exert only physiologically correlated amount of saturated and unsaturated fatty acid. Especially negative metabolic action is noted by use of heated oils contained polyunsaturated fatty acids.

[Effectiveness of non-starch polysaccharide crylan in experimental hyperlipidemia].

In vitro experiments were shown that native ecologically pure non-starch polysaccharide crylan bind the bile acid. Crylan was found to decrease hyperlipidemia induced in rats by means of diet enriched with cholesterol and 6-methylthiouracil. This effect of crylan was more pronounced as compare with the action of native nonspecific enterosorbent polyfepan.

[Hypolipidemic action of phospholipid compounds in experimental animals].

New Russian phospholipid compounds (PLC) made of plants rich in vitamins were tested for effects on induced rat hyperlipidemia in comparison with those of lipostabil (essentiale). Administration of PLC gave rise to a marked hypolipidemic effect, decreased hepatic lipid infiltration and aortic cholesterol. Some novel PLC are much more effective than lipostabil.

[Changes in the blood serum lipids and lipoproteins of rats in ovariectomy and to the administration of the methyl ester of 6-hydroxy-D-homo-8-isoestrone].

Ovariectomy of rats resulted in biphasic increase of the blood plasma cholesterol (on days 42-54, 70), the alteration of lipoprotein spectrum. The administration to ovariectomized rats of methyl ether 6-oxy-D-homo-8-isoestrone in a dose of 0.01 mg/kg brought about lowering of serum cholesterol and normalization of lipoproteins spectrum. The above trends were not observed after introduction of 0.01 mg/kg estradiol.

[Experimental and clinical study of Vasosan P, a new form of pectin-enriched cholestyramine].

The bile acid sequestering agent Vasosan P is a new form of pectin-enriched cholestyramine (20%), saccharose (5%) and sorbic acid (0.18%). In comparison with cholestyramine Vasosan P has a more marked hypolipidemic effect in experiment. Vasosan P is remarkable for good organoleptic properties. It is effective in treating patients with type IIa hyperlipoproteinemia and practically has no side effects as cholestyramine.

[Effect of arginine on the lipid and lipoprotein content of animal blood].

Arginine decreased cholesterol and triglyceride content in blood sera of intact rats and inhibited the development of hyperlipidemia provoked by Triton WR-1339 injection. In rabbits pretreated with cholesterol arginine diminished the content of blood serum cholesterol and triglycerides. Introduction of arginine to intact and hyperlipidemic guinea pigs decreased the VLDL and increased the HDL level. Under influence of arginine electrophoretic zone of HDL apo A-1 was more pronounced and apo E zone became less distinct in hyperlipidemic guinea pigs.

[Effect of electrostimulation of the supraoptic region of the hypothalamus on lipid metabolism and the development of atherosclerosis].

A three-week electrical stimulation of the hypothalamic supraoptic zone in rabbits which were on atherogenic diet for 3 to 8 weeks accelerated and intensified the development of hypercholesterolemia and lipidosis of the coronary arteries, as well as the metabolic changes in the myocardial tissue. The latter changes were expressed in the reduction of the tissue noradrenaline level, diminution of the creatine phosphate content, and an increase of inorganic phosphorus and lactic acid.

[Effect of chronic stimulation of rats with intact and deafferented hypothalamuses on lipid metabolism and the adrenal cortex].

Chronic irritation of the falsely operated rats and those with the deafferentated hypothalamus led to reduction of total blood cholesterol and the accumulation of triglycerides in the liver. Dexamethasone administration was accompanied by an increase of blood cholesterol and triglycerides and the triglyceride accumulation in the liver. The action of dexamethasone was more pronounced in the animals with the deafferentated hypothalamus. The rate of 11-oxycorticosteroid secretion into the adrenal vein is reduced in the latter.

11-Hydroxycorticosteroids↗

[Functional state of the hypothalamo-hypophyseo-adrenal system of guinea pigs under the influence of angular acceleration].

Experiments were conducted on guinea pigs. A study was made of the influence of increased gravitation on the activity of the hypothalamo-hypophysio-adrenal system. It appeared that a single centrifugation led to the activation of the mentioned system; however, repeated action of the angular accelerations on the animal organism failed to lead to any increase in the blood corticosteroid level (on the 6th-11th days); this can be attributed to the adaptation of the central link of the hypophysio-adrenal system to the given stimulus, and not to the exhaustion of the adrenal cortex.

[Effect of ethirazol and parmidine ofn the development of experimental atherosclerosis in rabbits].

Experiments on rabbits which received cholesterol in food for 3-4 months showed an inhibitory effect of ethirazol (bis-methylamide-1-ethyl-pyrazol-3,4-bicarbonic acid) and parmidine (piridinolcarbamate, 2,6-bis-hydroxymethylpiridine bis-n-methylcarbamate) on the development of experimental atherosclerosis: there proved to be a reduction of accumulation of total cholesterol in the aorta and of its atherosclerotic affection. At the same time the blood serum cholesterol, triglycerids and phospholipid content was not significantly changed by these drugs.
