[The reactogenicity and immunological efficacy of a Klebsiella vaccine in donors].

Klebsiella vaccine, when injected subcutaneously to donors, proved to be faintly reactogenic and safe. The injection of the vaccine had no effect on changes in the morphological composition of peripheral blood and on liver function. In persons with the initially low content of IgG an increase in this characteristic was observed after immunization. No changes in the synthesis of IgE occurred in healthy donors under the influence of immunization. The vaccine was shown to be immunogenic when introduced according to immunization schedules comprising 3 and 5 injections, the titer of Klebsiella antibodies increasing 3- to 5-fold.

[Possible diagnosis of Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection by an immunoenzyme method using pyoimmunogen as the antigen].

The possibility of detecting P. aeruginosa antibodies in patients by means of indirect solid-phase EIA techniques is shown. This assay is carried out with the use of reagents produced in the USSR: polystyrene assay plates manufactured by the Lenigrad Medpolymer Works are used as carriers, P. aeruginosa vaccine (pyoimmunogen) obtained under semi-industrial conditions at the Mechnikov Central Research Institute for Vaccines and Sera is used as antigenic complex and the commercial preparation produced by the Gamaleia Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology serves as conjugate. The studies have revealed that in 95% of cases the level of antibodies in the sera of patients with acute destructive pneumonia accompanied by pleural empyema, abscesses of internal organs and acute hematogenic osteomyelitis is essentially higher than the level of "normal" antibodies in healthy donors from whom biologically confirmed P. aeruginosa cultures can be isolated. In the groups of patients with similar nosological forms of diseases caused by other infective agents such difference in antibody titers is not detected. These results suggest that the detection of antibodies to P. aeruginosa in patients' sera by means of EIA can be used as an additional test for the diagnosis of P. aeruginosa infections.

[Immunological activity of a Proteus vaccine administered to volunteers simultaneously with a pyoimmunogen and adsorbed staphylococcal anatoxin].

The comparative study of the immunological activity of Proteus vaccine prepared from soluble antigenic complexes was made after the immunization of volunteers with this vaccine used in the form of a single preparation and in combination with pyoimmunogen (Pseudomonas aeruginosa vaccine) and/or adsorbed staphylococcal toxoid. The injection of the vaccine in the form of a single preparation and in different combinations increased the ingestion of Proteus cells by neutrophils. The injection of Proteus vaccine simultaneously with pyoimmunogen and staphylococcal toxoid ensured the intensive phagocytosis of staphylococci. All combinations with Proteus vaccine, used in this investigation, stimulated the intensive formation of antibodies to Proteus vaccine strain and Re-glycolipid. Proteus vaccine introduced in combination with adsorbed staphylococcal toxoid essentially stimulated the synthesis of anti-alpha-staphylolysin.

[Characteristics of the amino acid spectrum of blood serum in diabetes mellitus].

The content of the following 10 amino acids was investigated by means of a microbiological method (with the use of auxotrophic E. coli mutants) in 23 patients with diabetes mellitus with fatty infiltration of the liver and in 27 patients without it: histidine, proline, methionine, cystine, tryptophane, leucine, arginine, tyrosine, lysine, and phenylalanine. Results of study of the amino acid balance were compared with the morphological changes in the liver (the material was obtained by biopsy). All the diabetic patients displayed an increase in the proline, tryptophane, tyrosine, leucine, and cystine content, and a reduction of phenylalanine and lysine level. Fatty hepatocyte infiltration was also accompanied by a significant elevation of methionine and a reduction of arginine content. A tendency to normalization of leucine and lysine only was seen after the treatment of diabetic patients with fatty hepatocyte infiltration; diabetic patients without any fatty infiltration showed normalization in the tyrosine, lysine content and a tendency to the normalization of the cystine, tryptophane level, but no change in the methionine content.
