[Method of random selection of fields of view for pathological study of histological preparations].

A simple method for selection of fields of vision in microscopy of histological sections is suggested. The objective of the microscope is focused to any corner of the section, and values of integrator screws of the preparation driver are read. Two other diagonal corners of the section are placed under the objective and values of the integrator screws are read. Numbers of the natural series between the first and second readings of integrator screw values are taken as the numbers of fields of vision in the section examined. A random number of a field of vision is obtained from the table of random numbers in the interval of numbers obtained from values of the integrator screws.

Histological Techniques↗

[Planimetric grids for macro- and microscopic stereologic studies].

The authors suggest a lattice variant for the planimetric investigation of the macro- and microobjects, with the equal distance between the lattice main points which had a 'zero' thickness. The method of stereological studies is described. Formulae for the determination of the necessary number of counts of the points for obtaining the representative data on the quota of the structural components in the sample under study at the 95% confidence interval are suggested. Formulae for the estimation of the volumetric density of the structural formation under study in the macro- and microscopic object with the calculation of its statistical indices are given.

Methods↗

[Principles of collecting the material for morphological and morphometric studies in pathology].

Methods of random sampling of preparations for investigation of pathological processes of diffuse and focal character are described; a possible classification of pathologoanatomic material is suggested. It is recommended to consider the total volume of an organ as a combination of submultitudes of elementary volumes non-intersected in pairs; these volumes should be selected according to the table of random numbers. For this purpose, the organ is dissected in parallel blocks of a given thickness perpendiculary to its root and on the last block a lattice is placed with numbered squares giving numeration for submultitudes of elementary volumes.
