[Revascularization of avascular spongy bone].

There have been studied the state of blood circulation in proximal parts of femur of 24 dogs (48 hip joints with simulated aseptic necrosis). In the first group of joints there have been carried out revascularization of the head by caudal epigastric artery with commitant veins. The second group have been subjected to tunneling. The third group of joints served as a control. Microcirculation disturbances, ascertained by intraosseous contrast phlebography arteriography and microscopic examination of osseous tissue, indicated that aseptic necrosis of the head of femur in an experiment is accompanied by increased intraosseous pressure, revascularization of an avascular spongy bone causes stable normalization of intraosseous hemodynamics.

[Morphofunctional characteristics of the adrenals in patients with cardiovascular pathology].

The adrenals of 65 patients who had died of rheumatism, endocarditis septica lenta, simple chronic bronchitis, atherosclerotic cardiosclerosis and acute trauma were studied histologically, histochemically, morphometrically and using impregnation methods. Processes in the stroma and endocrine tissue were divided into two groups. The first group included changes relating to the manifestation of general adaptation syndrome. The second one deals with changes reflecting the features of the given disease pathogenesis: degenerative and inflammatory processes typical for certain conditions, various states of different adrenal zones.

Adrenal Glands↗

[Morpho-functional characteristics of the adenohypophysis in cardiovascular pathology].

Morphologic examination of the adenohypophysis of 46 subjects who died from cardiovascular diseases has shown a restructuring of the gland, including changes in its nonspecific signs and alterations typical of certain cardiovascular conditions. Analysis of the ratios between various types of endocrine cells and different types of basophil tropocytess in health and disease has revealed variability of these parameters in cardiovascular diseases and in various types of the same disease. Fluctuations in adenohypophysis cellular composition are explained by specific features of the pathogenesis of these conditions.

APUD Cells↗

[Functional morphology of the hypothalamus in cardiovascular pathology].

A morphologic study of the hypothalamus in the presence of various cardiovascular disorders has demonstrated discirculatory processes involving the microcirculatory network and resulting in the death of individual neurons. The number of disintegrating neurons is dependent on the pattern of the disease. Pathogenetic features of the disease are accompanied with changes in mean neuronic karyon volume that reflect variations in hypothalamic nuclear activity.

[Clinico-morphologic parallels in aseptic necrosis of the head of the femur in adults].

The authors reviewed clinical findings from 57 adult patients with aseptic necrosis of the head of the femur. A statistical processing of the findings showed a significant direct correlation between the stages of the process and the degree of femoral muscular atrophy, degree of internal rotation and abduction limitations, thermographic activity, and intraosteal blood pressure. A pathohistological examination of osseous tissue specimens from the head of the femur revealed that at an early pre-X-ray stage, pathological changes involved only the microcirculatory bed of the bone marrow; in this consequence, extra-articular implantation of the inferior epigastric artery with concomitant veins into the neck and head of the femur is likely to be justifiable at this stage.

Blood Pressure↗

[Aspergillotic septic endocarditis of the mitral and trigeminal valves as a complication of silicotuberculosis].

Fungal endocarditis is caused by fungi Candida and Aspergillus. Continuous intravenous infusions, catheterization, open-heart surgery, tracheal injuries, artificial heart valves can serve as predisposing factors. Aspergillus endocarditis is more common in severe infectious diseases after a prolonged use of antibiotics, cytostatics, glucocorticoids. A case of aspergillus endocarditis of mitral and tricuspid valves is described in a 55-year old patient. The man had been long suffering from silicotuberculosis and had been on a prolonged antibacterial therapy. The aspergillus endocarditis must have developed in the patient due to marked dysbacteriosis.

Aspergillosis↗

[Functional morphology of the hypothalamo-hypophyseal-adrenal system in acute coronary failure]].

Histological and morphometric studies of large-cell and small-cell hypothalamic nuclei, adenohypophysis, and adrenal cortex of patients who died from acute coronary failure revealed signs of persistent hyperfunction of small-cell nuclei of the hypothalamus, bundle and retinal adrenocortical zones, and signs of short-term hyperfunction of pituitary adenocytes. These changes indicate disorders in the hypothalamic regulation of adrenal activity.

[Statistical analysis of self-hanging cases in Riazan' and nearby regions for 6 years].

The 6 year statistics on cases of self-hanging in Ryazan and nearby regions are presented. The number of suicides reduced from 23 to 20.5 per 100000. Among men suicides are more frequent in the middle-aged population, among women--in old population. Hanging suicides were often done in alcohol intoxication (60% men and 42% women).

Age Factors↗

[Erdheim's disease as a cause of sudden death].

Morphologic findings in three cases are presented. Death was caused by Erdheim's disease which was complicated by rupture of a false aneurysm of the ascending part of the aorta. A typical dystrophic involvement of the aortic wall at late stages of the disease is shown to be associated with a manifest inflammatory process presenting as nonspecific aortoarteritis. To verify the diagnosis, histologic examination of the aortic wall at some distance from the site of rupture should be performed.

[The structure of the germinal centers of the thymus].

A morphological investigation of the thymus was performed in 82 patients dead from rheumatism. The germinal centers of the thymus localized in the cortical layer and medullary substance were found in 42% of observations. These centers were not homogeneous in their structure. Some of them represent germinal centers of lymphoid nodules, others have epithelioreticulocytes. The latters having a substantial difference from the centers of the lymphoid nodules should be referred to as thymic islands. Necrosis of their cells appear in these islands, its spreading being responsible for transformation of the islands in cysts. The appearance of islands and the following necrosis are thought to be a mechanism of elimination of the thymus cells.
