[Helicobacter pylori prevalence among patients with gastroduodenal diseases in Kiev].

It is for the first time in Ukraine that a study has been made on the epidemiology of H. pylori infection among patients with disorders of the stomach and duodenum. The diagnosis of the infection was done with the aid of various invasive and noninvasive tests, 13C-urea breathing test, a unique for Ukraine and countries of the Western Europe method of examination included. Ascertained among the above category of patients was wide prevalence of H. pylori, which fact confirms its leading etiological role in disorders of the stomach and duodenum once again.

[Drug and non-drug immunocorrection in peptic ulcer].

Drug immunocorrection and microwave resonance therapy allowed to normalize the immune status in 93% of patients with ulcer disease. This allowed to achieve clinico-endoscopic remission in 82%, reduce scarring time on the average by 6-7 days and to reduce markedly the recurrence frequency.

[Differentiated immunocorrective therapy in nonspecific ulcerative colitis].

A comparative study of the clinico-immunological efficacy of steroid hormones and thymus drugs in 50 patients with unspecific ulcerative colitis of different activity grades revealed that their efficacy was not similar at different phases of the disease and depended on the activity of the inflammatory process. Corticosteroids were more effective in inflammatory-destructive changes in the mucosa of the large intestine while in mild inflammation with prevalence of ulcerative-reparative processes, immunomodulators (thymalin) are preferred.

[Changes in the trace element content of the blood in chronic hepatitis].

Trace elements were examined spectrophotometrically in 45 patients with chronic hepatitis (persisting--31; chronic--14). Lead and cadmium showed a significant increase both in the healthy and hepatitis patients. A reduction of zinc and increase of copper was found in patients with chronic hepatitis. Changes in the content of microelements depended on the severity of the disease.

[The T- and B-immunity systems in patients with digestive organ diseases and exposure to internal radiation].

Results are reported of an immunological examination of 534 patients with digestive diseases and 130 healthy persons. 282 patients subjected to radiation effects showed a marked and persistent T-lymphocytopenia, B-lymphocytosis, reduction of the content of T-helpers, T-suppressors, dysimmunoglobulinemia characterized by reduction of IgG content and excessive IgA secretion. These changes were observed during the period of exacerbation and remission requiring the use of immunocorrective agents.

[The characteristics of the clinical course of digestive organ diseases in persons subjected to ionizing radiation exposure resulting from the accident at the Chernobyl Atomic Electric Power Station].

Results of a study of 1905 persons are reported. Of them 1775 showed diseases of the digestive organs. Among them were were 275 who were subjected to the effect of ionizing radiation. In these 275 patients the most frequent pathology were erosive lesions of the gastric and duodenal mucosa, gastroesophageal reflux, esophagitis. There was a dependence of the onset of the disease and stay in the disaster Zone. The disease was accompanied by a stable T-cellular immunodeficiency that exacerbated the course of the disease. It is recommended to include immunocorrectors in the complex therapy of these diseases.

[The characteristics of the immune status in patients with the Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome].

A study is presented of 32 patients (18 men, 14 women; age from 16 to 38 years) with WPW syndrome. Immunological investigations revealed characteristic of WPW syndrome phenotypic peculiarities with characteristic changes of the immune status, allowed to evaluate the mechanism of formation of Kent's bundle and to discuss the problem of primary prophylaxis by means of immunoactive agents.

[Diagnosis of Campylobacter pylori based on the level of urea in the gastric juice].

Comparison of urea levels in 3 portions of gastric juice, obtained on an empty stomach, basal, and stimulated, from 28 patients, C. pylori carriers, and 20 patients without C. pylori carriership, has shown that the presence of this bacterium in the gastric mucosa is related not so much with a decrease in the absolute level of urea in the portion collected on an empty stomach but mostly with changes in this parameter in three portions of gastric juice collected in succession. Decreased urea levels in the second portion as against the first one or in the third one as against the two previous ones were detected in 97% of patients with C. pylori carriership. In 100% of patients without C. pylori carriership urea levels in the three portions remained unchanged or were decreasing. The method for measuring urea levels in three portions of gastric juice is recommended for the diagnosis of C. pylori carriership in gastroduodenal diseases.

[The relationship of immunological reactivity to blood groups].

The relationship of blood groups and level of immunological reactivity was studied in 500 patients with different diseases and 246 healthy subjects. Distribution of genetic markers of blood groups in the healthy and patients showed certain characteristic features. It was found that the A (11) blood group in the healthy may be considered a marker of high levels of immunological reactivity resulting in a milder course of diseases in persons of this blood group. It was shown that different pathological states are characterized by variations of immunological reactivity depending on the blood group--on the content of populations and subpopulations of lymphocytes, immunoglobulin of different classes, normal antibodies, grade of immunodeficiency.

[Immunocorrective therapy of patients with rheumatoid arthritis].

The clinico-immunological efficacy is shown of including timoptin, levamysol, sodium nucleinate in the complex treatment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis who received glucocorticosteroids. It was found that employment of immunoregulating agents allowed to correct the immunological insufficiency in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, to increase the treatment efficacy.

[Effectiveness of immunostimulants in nonspecific ulcerative colitis].

Clinical and immunologic efficacies of some immunostimulants (levamisole, sodium nucleinate, thymic preparations) included in therapeutic schemes in nonspecific ulcerous colitis both separately and in various combinations were under study. The efficacy of these stimulants was found to depend on the disease severity and proved to be the highest in the light course. Thymalin and sodium nucleinate showed the highest clinical and immunologic efficacies, particularly if used together. Levamisole administration was associated with frequent side effects and had no essential advantages over basic therapy. This permits a conclusion that immunostimulants are pathogenetically validated in therapy of ulcerous colitis, for they result in reduction or elimination of immunity insufficiency and their administration leads to a positive clinical effect in the majority of cases.
