The internationally used WHO-basic tabulation list of causes of diseases and death is presented in a modified version for forensic medicine. The findings of postmortems are to be indexed with this code and put into a database. We would like to suggest that as many institutes as possible use this code and collaborate to discuss further modifications.
Stab wounds were made in parenchymatous organs (e.g. liver, spleen, kidneys, lungs) using a variety of instruments. The shape of the resulting canal was investigated by X-ray analysis after introduction of an X-ray contrast medium. The best contrast was obtained using a contrast medium containing barium. The shape of the canal gave a direct representation of the outline of the instrument used. The width of the canal was however, always several millimeters smaller than the corresponding blade of the instrument. The position of the blade back in single-edged blades could be demonstrated with stronger contrast.
Dactyloscopic fingerprints of longer time in water laying corpses can be taken from the surface and rear face of the epidermis and from the corium with a simple method. Used are in household occurring or easily available substances. For best results in identification it is important to get all fingerprints without exchanging them.
Two cases of suicide with bandsaws, undertaken by workers in carpenters' workshops are reported and discussed. Their choice of this method was based on the fact that they knew how dangerous such machines were. Both cases were watched by witnesses, who could not intervene due to the speed of the events. It was possible to exclude accident or homicide.
