[Morphology of the suppurative wound in treatment with a carbon dioxide laser].

The morphological study was performed of biopsies from purulent wounds of 405 patients after an operative removal of the necrotic tissue or necrectomy with a beam of carbon dioxide laser and subsequent application of the primary suture, washing, drainage and active aspiration. The healing of the purulent wound coursed similarly to that of the pure surgical wound, due to aseptic productive inflammation not involving leukocytic infiltration of the granulation tissue. The presence of mononuclear cells and lymphoid cell infiltration in the granulation tissue is indicative of the immune processes enhancement in the host. The results obtained show that the use of a carbon dioxide laser for the treatment of purulent wounds favours their purification, stimulates the regeneratory processes and makes the period of the patient treatment 1.5-2 times shorter.

[Morphological bases of myocardial revascularization by laser radiation].

The mechanism of myocardial revascularization was studied in 30 dogs with the aid of impulse carbonic acid laser after ligation of the anterior descending branch of the left coronary artery. In the control group, 4 dogs died of myocardial infarction. In 26 animals laser canals were formed. The walls of the canals comprised cardiomyocytes with the manifestations of a coagulation thermal necrosis. Morphological studies disclosed the aseptic productive nature of the inflammatory reaction and the absence of marked leukocytic infiltration of the tissues adjacent to the area of necrosis. The laser canals were lined with endothelium by the 10th-14th day after operation, they were not obliterated or sclerosed. Morphological, laboratory, and radionuclide studies attest to adequate perfusion of the myocardium with the aid of the laser canals preventing the development of myocardial ischemia and infarction.

[Morphology of the reparative processes after the arrest of gastric hemorrhages using various lasers].

Morphological changes in the stomach of 40 heparinized dogs with acute gastric hemorrhages from experimental ulcers and 22 patients with acute gastrointestinal hemorrhages were studied immediately and at remote intervals after laser photocoagulations performed by continuous laser irradiation. After laser irradiation, typical changes in morphological structures developed and were accompanied by the appearance at the site of the bleeding ulcers of coagulation necrosis and coagulative thrombi of arrosive arteries conducive to hemostasis. Laser wounds healed with the formation of aseptic productive inflammation without considerable inflammatory infiltration and edema of the adjacent tissues. Reparation of the mucous membrane ends by 30--45 days after coagulation with regeneration of the muscular layer of the mucosa and without any scar in the submucous layer.

[Morphological characteristics of testicular tissue in animals subjected to unilateral laser castration].

In this paper, results of the morphological studies of mammalian testicular tissue after exposure of one of the testes to powerful laser radiation are reported. The results obtained are compared with those reported in the literature on the biological effect of penetrating radiation. No negative influence of powerful laser radiation is registered at the organism level. The criteria for estimation are the tissue response, morphological picture of spermatogenesis, and reproductive functions of exposed animals and of their progeny.
