[Intratumoral and parametric administration of metronidazole in the radiotherapy of cancer of the cervix].

The paper is concerned with analysis of the results of radiation therapy of cervical cancer and intratumoral administration of metronidazole (124 patients with tumors, Stage IIB and III). At the end of the treatment, complete tumor regression in the intervention group (with metronidazole) was noted in 91% (irrespective of a stage of disease), in the control group (without metronidazole)--in 51% of the patients.

Adult

[Planning mobile gamma therapy of cervix cancer].

Moving irradiation of cervical cancer is widely used in radiogynecological practice, mainly as a telecomponent of combined radiation therapy. Its advantages over static irradiation are reduced exposure of the adjacent organs, the absence of skin complications, and a possibility of simultaneous exposure of a primary focus and lymph outflow viae. Biaxial sectoral irradiation was regarded as the most effective method. In order to increase the accuracy and improve the individualized design of moving irradiation according to this method the authors proposed that echotomography be used to determine the depth of the vibration axis. The thickness of subcutaneous fatty tissue was taken into account within the irradiated field in each case. The existing calculating and echotomographic methods for the determination of a position of the vibration axis were compared. Divergence between them was absent in 65% of cases, divergence of up to 1 cm was noted in 28%, up to 2 cm in 31%, up to 3 cm in 20%, and over 3 cm in 14%. Differences were statistically significant. Taking into account a high dose gradient in the sagittal plane the proposed method will make it possible to avoid overirradiation of the bladder and rectum.

Female

[The uranoplasty of wide clefts in children].

Sixty children with wide palate clefts (open uni- and bilateral, and complete isolated), aged 2.5-13 years were operated on according to a new uranoplasty technique. The wounds healed by primary tension in 53 children; anatomical shape of the palate was completely restored, the palate elongated, and the pharyngeal ring narrowed. Small (0.2-0.3 sm) open defects in the soft palate remained unhealed in 5 children. Complete failure of sutures was seen in 2 children, when the method was just beginning to be introduced. Late results of treatment were followed up in 40 children over the periods of 6 months to 3 years. Good functional results were achieved in 16, satisfactory in 22, and unsatisfactory in 2 children.
