[ED-20 epoxy resin as an embedding medium for biological objects for electron microscopy study].

A method of embedding of biological objects for electron microscopy is described. A solution of epoxide resin ED-20 with a plastifier, dibutyl phthalate, and a solidifier, standard polyethylene polyamine, comprising 8% and 12% of the total mass of resin, was added into capsules into which blocks of tissues to be examined that had been pre-impregnated in increasing resin-in-acetone solution series were placed. Polymerization occurred under conventional conditions at room temperature for 24 hours or at 37 degrees C for 12 hours.

[The effect of caries and pulp inflammation on the mineral component of dentin].

A total of 94 dentin biopsy specimens of normal teeth, of those with caries and inflammations of the pulp were examined by phase x-ray diffraction analysis. The findings evidence changed ratio and concentrations of chemical elements and complexes (apatite phases) in the mineral component structure. Crystallographic studies have revealed a less symmetric crystal lattice and its deformation directly related to the pathologic process intensity.

[The nature and characteristics of valence fluctuations of the functional groups in the organic structure of normal dentin and in pathology].

Biopsied coronal dentin was studied in 50 permanent teeth in healthy individuals and patients with caries and pulpitis. Valent undulations of functional groups of protein matrix of dentin were studied. The characteristic absorption bands reflecting the chemical links stabilizing the protein molecular structure were determined. The course of chemical links changes was followed in caries and pulpitis which suggested the increased pathological changes in the organic matrix of coronal dentin.

[Changes in the microhardness of the enamel and dentin in pulp inflammation].

Clinical and experimental studies of the dental enamel and dentin microhardness were carried out. A comparative analysis has made it possible to detect parallels in the changes of dental tissue microhardness in humans and dogs. The studies have revealed a focal pattern of demineralization, with the foci located mainly in the neck of the tooth and the pericervical portion of the root, indicating a considerable reduction of the functional resistance of pulpless teeth.
