[The meaning of the concept "ecological hazard"].

Anthropogenic activity transforms the natural media and in the wide sense is a stimulus of further evolution. The late consequences of anthropogenic activity are mainly unpredictable. It is possible to acknowledge anthropogenic activity as ecologically hazardous only when it has a damaging effect on the health of man or interferes with its interests, i.e. while estimating it from egocentric positions. At present ecological hazards are first of all presented by industrial waste.

[Can extrachromosomal genetic elements be recognized as inventions?].

The legal bases for acknowledgement of plasmids (vectors) as inventions, in particular within the classes of the "substance" and "microbial strain" are discussed. There is a definite similarity in a number of features between phages recognized as inventions and plasmids. Therefore, in principle their acknowledgement as inventions may be considered possible, since it raises no new problems as those occurring in legal protection of microbial strains. At the same time there is no pressing need in acknowledgement of plasmids (vectors) as inventions and their legal protection should be rather of the prestige character.

[Protection of inventions in the field of vaccines and sera].

Requirements admit a possibility of protection of a vaccine-serum preparation by the author's certificate only in case of approbation of the preparation. The formula of invention should describe the preparation in such a way that it could be differentiated from similar preparations. In accordance with these requirements the preparation can be described only with reference to the method of obtaining it, since this method determines its quality. The most rational form of protection of suggestions in the field of vaccines and sera is a complex protection of the preparation and of the method of obtaining it. Protection of the method of obtaining the preparation alone limits the authors' rights.
