Effects of new wound dressings on healing of thermal burns of the skin in acute radiation disease.

Effects of new wound dressing bacterial cellulose impregnated with SOD and poviargol (Procel-Super and Procel-PA) and Inerpan hydrogel dressing on the reparative processes in deep dermal burns (IIIa-IIIb degree) in rats exposed to total even irradiation in a dose of 4 Gy were studied. Inerpan and Procel-Super dressings proved to be the most effective under these conditions: they accelerated healing of burn wounds by 17.0 and 5.5%, respectively.

A study of the influence of different types of radioprotectors on the survival of mice treated with ionizing radiation over a wide dose range.

The subject of this study is the influence of the preventive administration of cystamine, naphthysin, Ukrain, Lymphokinin, Prodigiosan, and polyribonate on the 30-day survival of mice subject to doses of ionizing radiation ranging from LD50/30 to LD100/30. Conventional radioprotectors were shown to prevent the death of experimental animals irradiated with doses ranging from LD70 to LD100/30 but were inefficient as a means of preventing mortality at doses with a medium lethal effect. In contrast, the bioregulators Ukrain and Lymphokinin were more potent at doses ranging from LD50 to LD70/30 (1.5 times more potent than conventional radioprotectors). Polyribonate and Prodigiosan were the least potent. These findings are discussed with respect to the appropriateness of developing pharmacological means which could protect organisms from different degrees of radiation-induced damage. The need to modify the criteria for the selection of potential radioprotectors is emphasized.

[Change in neutrophils in liquidators of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl Atomic Electric Power Station].

In result of own researches and analysis of the literature? the information about high sensitivity of neutrophils of peripheric blood to infringements of constancy of internal state of body, arising as reply to radiating influence, are received. Ionized radiation modulates greatly properties and functions of neutrophilic granulocytes, which are the most sensitive and high-modulated cells of non-specific resistance system. The changes of the functional-metabolic status of neutrophils in participants of liquidation of consequences of Chernobyl disaster have been saving during 10 years after influence of the extreme, including radiating, factors of failure.

Case-Control Studies↗

[Effects of adaptogenes on some indices of functional state of the body on occupational radiation exposure].

There have been presented the data of studying the body functional state of individuals being long contact with the ionizing radiation sources and assessing the effectiveness of prevention and correction of the revealed disorders with the help of adaptogenes. It is found that ordering of eleuterococcus as well as some new biologically active substances which include vitamins amino acids, organic acids, phospholipids, microelements (ammivit, Ascocept, Hianaya) for the course of treatment makes a contribution to a significant, acceleration of adaptation to the extreme factors of the professional activity of the mentioned group of individuals. It is indicated that ammivit, Ascocept and Hianaya out perform eleuterococcus.

[Methodological characteristics of medico-ecological evaluation of the combined action of radiation and chemical factors in the environment on the health of population].

Ecological situation was examined in Eyphremovsk district of Tula region. Medico-ecologic evaluation also included the analysis of joint effects of radiation and chemical factors upon human health. The whole situation is complicated by the geographical peculiarities of the territory which is a zone of marked tectonic breaking of earth crust. The stated evaluation assumes a complex approach to solve the raised problem.

[Early detoxification therapy in radiation exposures].

According to the structural metabolic theory of radiation injuries radiotoxins perform a leading role in the development of disorders. The experiments have disclosed the characteristic features of the development of toxemia in irradiated organism. These data have served as a ground for studying the efficiency of various methods of detoxication. Metabolic plasmapheresis is seemed to be of most pronounced effect in comparison with other methods of detoxication. On the basis of the results of these studies several practical recommendations were provided for performing an early disintoxicative therapy in patients with radiation injuries.

[The use of diksafen for curing the neurotoxic reactions of cancer patients undergoing radiation and chemotherapy].

The paper discusses a clinical trial of a newly developed Soviet preparation--dixaphen which was administered to 40 patients who had received radiation and chemotherapy for Hodgkin's disease and tumors at other sites. A single intramuscular injection of 1.0 ml was found to abort emesis in 80-90% and asthenic syndrome--in 60-75%. The drug was well tolerated; it is recommended for treatment of malignant tumors.
