[Septic metastatic staphylococcal destruction of the lungs in adults].

The author analyzes results of diagnostics and treatment of 152 patients with septic metastatic staphylococcal destruction of the lungs. Specific features of the clinical course of the disease are described. Under consideration are questions of the complex pathogenetic treatment of this group of patients by means of using antibiotic and immune therapy, fat emulsions (lipofundin), exchange plasmapheresis, ultraviolet irradiation of blood etc.

[Results of the surgical treatment of lung cancer].

Clinical observations and autopsy findings indicate that radical surgery for lung cancer is followed in most cases by tumor progression. The first signs of the progression would more frequently develop during two years postoperatively, and these were due to metastases in distal organs (49.6%) and lymph nodes (35.2%), more rarely due to the recurrence (11.2%) or implantation metastases (4.0%). According to atuopsy findings in patients, died in late terms after radical surgery, the signs of lung cancer progression were revealed in 87.9% of cases. Among these surgical therapy rendered no effect on the frequency and localization of metastases as compared with untreated patients.

[The relationship between the doubling time of human lung tumor volume and the labelling index].

The value of the labelling index (incubation with H3-thymidine) was compared with the doubling time of tumour volume (by repeated roentgenograms) for 3 tumours of human lungs: two squamous cell carcinomas taken at various differentiation levels and a hamartoma. The minimum doubling time (178 days) was shown for the squamous cell carcinoma with a lower differentiation level and the greatest labelling index value (19.0%). Hamartoma (a non-malignant tumour of lung) displayed the longest doubling time (1250 days) and the least labelling index value (3.8%).

[Age aspects of remote outcome of acute lung suppuration].

Among 375 patients (adults and children) having acute suppurative processes in the lung, treated conservatively, 165 were examined in later terms up to 15 years, using modern bronchological methods, considerable changes being revealed in 66.2%: residual cavities, chronic abscesses, bronchitis deformans and bronchiectases. In children suppuration in the lung showed a more grave course, but reparative processes were much better pronounced. The studies conducted allowed a conclusion on the rationality of widening indications to radical surgical treatment in adult patients and the necessity of a dispensary control over children and adult patients, including those discharged with a recovery.
