[Evaluation of airway resistance determined by whole-body plethysmography].

Methods of estimation of the airway resistance by flow-pressure curve obtained in whole-body plethysmography are investigated. The analysis of the physical processes controlling the flow-limitation during expiration shows that these methods are useful only for healthy subjects for the estimation of the airway resistance. The way for estimation of the airway resistance by flow-pressure curve is proposed.

[Role of the rise of pressure in the pulmonary artery in the distribution of perfusion and gas exchange in bronchial obstruction].

The experiments on the dogs revealed that the damage of lobar bronchus conduction resulted in the decrease of O2 tension in pulmonary venous blood of this lobe. The decrease in the ventilation and blood flow was found in the zone of obstruction by using tracers 133Xe and 99mTc. The pressure rise in the pulmonary artery caused by the spread of bronchial obstruction is one of the factors promoting the redistribution of perfusion into the reserve zones of lungs. The decrease of pressure by the ganglio-blocking preparation results in the increase of arterial hypoxemia.

[External respiratory function in patients with primary pulmonary emphysema etiologically related to alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency].

To improve the diagnosis of primary lung emphysema etiologically linked with alpha-trypsin deficiency, the authors provide the results of a detailed clinico-functional study of 6 patients with an appreciable deficiency of this enzyme. According to the clinical and functional signs, all the patients were diagnosed to have a typical, pronounced lung emphysema. Therefore, the measurement of the alpha-antitrypsin content plays the crucial part in differential diagnosis of primary (hereditary determined) and secondary (obstructive) emphysema.
