Evaluation of the vitamin status in nursing women by vitamin content in breast milk.

The dependence of daily vitamin excretion with breast milk on dietary vitamin content and blood vitamin level was studied in nursing women. Breast mils vitamins were assayed in women supplied with vitamins. We identified the criteria for adequate vitamin supply in nursing women over the 1st month after labor (vitamins A, 130 microg; vitamin B1, 100 microg; vitamin B2, 130 microg; vitamin E, 750 microg; vitamin B6, 60 microg).

[The influence of the vitamin-mineral complex upon the blood vitamin, calcium and phosphorus of patients with ostreoarthrosis].

In research in which 11 osteoarthrosis patients with osteoarthrosis of the knee-joint of II-III degree and 18 healthy people took part, it has been shown that sufficiency with vitamin C, carotinoids and calcium of osteoarthrosis patients was worse than that of healthy people. These micronutrients blood plasma level in both groups was less than the lower border of normal sufficiency. Whereas patients from both groups were adequately supplied with vitamins A, E, B2 and phosphorus. Addition of vitamin-mineral complex to patients ration course 30 days resulted in eliminating insufficiently of vitamin C, carotinoids, beta-carotin, calcium and in hardly noticable changes of initial high levels of vitamin A, E, B and phosphoris. These nutrients deficit disappeared while there was no noticeable change in the initial optimal provision with vitamins B2, A and E. Thus, there is no doubt in arguments in favour of additional enrichment with vitamins and calcium of osteoarthrosis patients diet.

[Multivitamin-mineral complexes "dose-effect" correlation].

The dependence of effect of multivitamin-mineral complexes intake from vitamin content and of its administration duration has been studied. Concrete doses and terms needed for vitamin status improvement evaluated by means of pronounced increase of medium vitamin blood level in observed patient groups and decrease of relative quality of individuals with vitamin A, E, C, B2 or B6 deficit have been obtained. Vitamin intake in dose about 50 per cent of recommended daily allowance during 2 months can't liquidate vitamin insufficiency. The intake of vitamins in dose about physiologic requirement is more effective because of pronounced increase of medium vitamin blood level in observed patient took place after one month. High vitamin doses are suitable for the quick deficit liquidation and fool saturation of the body with these micronutrients.

[Multivitamin-mineral complexes: types, means of intake, efficiency].

Comparison of intake efficiency of the multivitamin-mineral complexes containing all micronutrients in the same tablet, has not revealed negative influence of microelements on vitamin status improvement. Thus, not denying an opportunity of existence and advantage of intake of vitamin-mineral complexes in which components are divided on different tablets, it is necessary to recognize, that from demonstrative medicine positions no sensible arguments in favour of vitamins and minerals availability improvement and, hence, the raised efficiency of such complexes usage has been yet found. Specially planned researches considering dozes, forms of mineral substances, equivalence of groups etc. are necessary for a final conclusion about compatibility or incompatibility of separate components in a tablet.

Effects of vitamin supply on spontaneous and chemically induced mutagenesis in human cells.

Chromosome aberrations in donor peripheral blood lymphocyte culture were evaluated before, 14 and 30 days after treatment with a vitamin/mineral complex. Treatment with the complex had no effect on spontaneous level of aberrant cells. The number of chromosome aberrations induced by dioxidine or cadmium chloride in vitro at the G2 stage decreased on days 14 and 30 of treatment with the complex.

[Influence of chitosan feeding of laying hens on egg vitamin and cholesterol content].

Chitosan feeding (10 and 20 mg per 1 kg body mass) of 19 week-age laying hens during 1.5 months caused a decrease in whole egg content of vitamin A for 13% and 20% (p < or = 0.05), vitamin E--for 30%, lutein--17% and didn't effect on vitamin B2 level. Chitosan intake lead to cholesterol content 1.5-2 fold decrease and didn't influence on egg yolk lipids concentration. Low dose chitosan-receiving hens had eggs with 1.8-fold increased egg yolk phospholipids level. The most optimal dose of chitosan for the improvement of eggs nutritive value was 10 mg. Under minimal loss in vitamins its administration lead to the pronounced cholesterol decrease and marked phospholipids elevation.

[Vitamin metabolism and status in patients with gastrointestinal diseases].

Principle differences in vitamin C, B2, B6, A, E and carotenoids sufficiency of healthy suffering from gastrointestinal diseases (gastric and duodenal ulcer, chronic gastritis, dyskinesia bile tracts) ulc adults and children has not been determined by means of the statistic analysis including such parameters as median, mode, insufficiency frequency, curves of vitamin blood plasma concentration distribution. Polyhypovitaminosis frequency among patients is a result of low vitamin content in reduced diets but not reflect vitamin metabolism alteration.

[Increase of nutritive value of poultry egg by of vitamin fortification of laid-hens diets].

Real content of vitamins A, E, B1 and B2 in hen's eggs from different poultry farms and personal farm varies in wide range and differs from the data of national food chemical tables. Elevated nutritive value eggs with maximal vitamin content may be obtained from hens fed diets with optimal vitamin level. Such way fortified one egg contributes 30% of recommended daily intake of vitamin E, about 10% of vitamins A and B2, 3% of vitamin B1. Intensification of egg yolk pigmentation by means of carotenoids additives to hens ration leads to their 10-fold increase comparing with the data of food chemical tables. Coloured egg provides for 5-10% of carotenoids adequate daily intake.

Requirement and criteria of adequate vitamin supply in healthy newborns.

Studies of the relationship between urinary excretion of vitamins and their daily intake in healthy newborns showed that babies aged 3-10 days should receive 30 mg vitamin C, 0.24 mg vitamin B(2), and 0.13 mg vitamin B(1). The criteria of adequate vitamin C, B(1), and B(2) supply evaluated by their urinary excretion are 220.0, 0.7, and 1.4 mg/g excreted creatinine, respectively.

[Vitamin sufficiency of young basketball players].

The investigation of vitamin sufficiency of young basket-ball players 14-16 years old (17 girls and 14 boys) has been carried out 59-77 per cent of the children had the deficiency of B group vitamins, 24-54 per cent--vitamin E insufficiency, most of them (82-100 per cent)--deficit of carotenoids while they were sufficiently vitamins C and A supplied. The girls were supplied with vitamins better than boys. There was no one adequately supplied with all vitamins among boys while 12 per cent of girls had adequately sufficiency. The girls had deficit of 1-2 vitamins more often whereas the combined insufficiency of 3-4 vitamins took place in 1.8-2.3 fold more frequently among boys. Daily intake of multivitamin containing 10 vitamins in daily recommended doses, lipoic acid, methionin and 9 minerals by boys lead to their blood plasma vitamin C, E, B-2 and beta-carotene level increase. Vitamin C insufficiency disappeared. Deficit of beta-carotene and vitamin B-6 became 1.5 fold rarely, vitamin B-2--2 fold, vitamin E--6 fold. Thus daily intake of recommended doses of vitamins eliminates biochemical signs of vitamin deficiency.

[Vitamin B1 and B2 ratio as a method of brewer's and food yeast identification].

The data on vitamins B1 and B2 content in dry brewer's and baker's yeast are submitted. Their significance as these nutrients source is evaluated. Brewer's yeast are mainly the source of vitamin B1 while baker's yeast--the source of vitamin B2. 5 g of yeast give 10 per cent of vitamin B1 and B2 daily recommended allowance correspondingly. Vitamin B1 and B2 ratio has been proposed as a identification criteria of brewer's and baker's yeast. Ratio more than 1.0 gives evidence that this is brewer's yeast. Vitamin B1 content 4 mg per 100 g or more and at the same time vitamin B1 and B2 ratio exceeding 3.0 demonstrate high quality of brewer's yeast.

[The connection between vitamin and iron status indexes of school-age children].

The analysis of vitamin and iron indexes of 95 children sufficiently supplied with vitamin C and vitamin B2 and carotenoids deficiency has been carried out. Vitamin E deficit takes place among anemic children (with decreased hemoglobin blood level) 2 fold more often than among healthy children. From another side, decreased hemoglobin blood level, erythrocyte quantity and erythrocyte indexes have been determined 1.7-2.4 fold more often in insufficiently supplied with vitamin E children. Tocopherols serum level had tendency to the decrease and vitamin E deficit took place 2 fold more frequently in children suffering from iron deficiency anemia that is with decreased hemoglobin and serum ferritin concentrations. Marked positive linear correlation between these iron indexes and vitamin E serum level has been revealed. These results give evidence concerning significant role of this vitamin in the body iron supplying. The results obtained give evidence for multi-deficient anemia presence among children, which are not always caused by iron deficit. High frequency of vitamin E and B group vitamins deficiency proves expediency of these vitamins inclusion in complex therapy of iron deficiency.

Riboflavin content in male spermoplasm.

Riboflavin concentration in male spermoplasm depends on consumption of vitamin B2 and is 3-50 times higher than in the blood plasma, depending on the riboflavin status. Normal levels of riboflavin content in the spermoplasm were evaluated by investigating the metabolic relationship between riboflavin concentration in the spermoplasm and blood plasma and the relationship between riboflavin saturation of the spermoplasm and the duration of treatment with vitamin B2. Both methods yielded close values: 60-130 and 85-96 ng/ml, hence, 80 ng/ml can be taken for the lower normal threshold level of riboflavin in the spermoplasm.

[The connection between vitamin and antioxidant status of the children with decreased hemoglobin level].

The investigation of vitamin sufficiency of 96 children 4-15 years old living in Moscow with decreased hemoglobin level (less 120 g/l) has been carried out in spring in 2001. Most of the children (90 per cent) had the combined deficiency of B group vitamins and carotenoids while they were sufficiently vitamin C supplied. There were only 2 per cent of children adequately supplied with all vitamins. Range correlation between hemoglobin blood level and riboflavin and tocopherols serum concentration has been observed. Marked negative linear correlation between riboflavin and malone dialdehyde serum content has been revealed: more sufficiently supplied with vitamin B2 child has lower lipid oxidative product level. Thus the necessity of vitamin B2 including in complex therapy of iron deficiency is based.

[Vitamin status in human noninfectious chronic diseases].

The data on vitamin sufficiency of adults and children suffering from chronic sickness and vitamin content in mostly common hospital diets has been submitted. Polyhypovitaminosis (combined insufficiency with several vitamins) takes place irrespective of season, age and place of residence. Deficit of B group vitamins and carotenoids has been observed more frequently. All hospital diets contain inadequate level of carotenoids, strongly reduced diets are deficiently in all vitamins. Any way of vitaminization (vitamins administration, including of vitamin-enriched food products in the ration) leads to the decrease of polyhypovitaminosis frequency, to the increase of the part of people adequately supplied with all vitamins and simultaneous improvement of patients clinic status.

[Analysis of vitamin and mineral sufficiency in children using data of consumption with food and urinary excretion].

It has been shown that vitamin C and B2, calcium and phosphorus daily intake strongly correlated with their urinary excretion in children 5-8 years old (Moscow) from the decreased bone mineral density risk group. Hour urinary calcium, phosphorus, creatinine excretion values for adequately supplied children has been determined. Vitamin and mineral status evaluation by means of estimation of vitamins and minerals consumption and urinary level (except vitamin B2) give relatively coincided results. Difference between these methods of nutritive status assessment attains 8-25 per cent. Thus these methods are substituted for group nutritive status evaluation.

Effect of vitamin therapy on sensitivity of peripheral blood lymphocytes to clastogenic effect of mutagens in vitro.

Spontaneous and in vitro induced (with 0.01 and 0.1 mg/ml dioxidine and 0.1 and 1.0 U/ml bleomycin) chromosome aberrations were counted in cultured peripheral blood cells from 11 donors before and after 2-week therapy with a vitamin complex. The complex contained the major vitamins in doses not surpassing the recommended daily doses. Vitamins had no effect on spontaneous mutations, but increased cell resistance to clastogenic effects of dioxidine in a concentration of 0.1, but not 0.01 mg/ml. Cell sensitivity to bleomycin notably increased after vitamin therapy in some donors and decreased in others, the mean parameters in the group remained virtually unchanged.
