[The HLA system in diffuse toxic goiter].

The paper is concerned with the determination of class I antigens of the HLA system in 104 patients with diffuse toxic goiter and in 643 donors. A study was made of the distribution of antigens, haplotypes and phenotypes of the HLA system. An increase in the frequency of antigens A28 and B8, haplotype [correction of haploptin] A1-B8 and phenotype B7, B8 and a decrease in the frequency of antigens B13, B17 and Cw4 were revealed. Immunogenetic indices showed no correlation with clinical, hormonal and immunological manifestations of the disease, neither did they influence the therapeutic prognosis of diffuse toxic goiter. A great genetic difference was revealed between patients with a relapse (decompensation) and those at remission.

[Comparative study of the frequency of HLA antigens in diffuse toxic goiter and autoimmune thyroiditis].

Class I HLA antigens were determined in 42 patients with diffuse toxic goiter (DTG), 31 patients with autoimmune thyroiditis (AT) and in 71 donors. A degree of association of antigen and disease (R) and difference in the frequency of some HLA antigen bearing in the groups of patients and healthy persons were revealed. Positive association of DTG with antigens A1, A3, B8, haplotype A1-B8 and AT with A1 and B35 was established. The bearing of B13 antigen in DTG and A11 in AT was a protective factor in the development of the above diseases. A study of the comparative distribution of HLA antigens in DTG and AT showed immunogenetic heterogeneity of these diseases, determining perhaps difference in the immune response of DTG and AT patients.

[Antigens of the HLA system in nodular formations of the thyroid gland].

Distribution of the HLA system Class 1 specificities was studied in 97 patients with thyroid carcinoma, 101 ones with nodular goiter and 500 donors in the Central Urals. B15, B18 antigens were very frequent and All antigens quite rare in the patients with thyroid carcinoma; in patients with nodular goiter the incidence of Aw19, A28, B18 antigens was the highest, whereas the incidence of A11 antigen and the A2-B35 haplotype was low. The groups of patients with thyroid carcinoma and nodular goiter differed only by the incidence of A28 antigen and A2-B35 haplotype, this fact indicating the immunogenetic similarity of the diseases in question. Similar pathogenetic mechanisms of the formation of mammary carcinoma and of nodular goiter in the thyroid may be supposed, this giving grounds for the radical approach to the treatment of nodular formations of the thyroid.
