[Ciprofloxacin in the treatment of urogenital infections in women].

The examination included 51 women. In 25.5 and 33.3 per cent of them gonorrhea and association of gonorrhea with trichomoniasis, chlamydiosis or ureaplasmosis and in 35.3 and 5.9 per cent chlamydiosis and association of chlamydiosis with trichomoniasis were stated respectively. 56.9 and 17.6 per cent of the women had the mixed infection in the urogenital tract and in extragenital foci respectively. The regimen of the chronic gonorrhea therapy included the use of ciprofloxacin in the initial dose of 500 mg and the subsequent doses of 250 mg every 12 hours, the course dose being 1.25 g. The efficacy of the treatment amounted to 100 per cent. The treatment of the patients with gonorrhea association with ureaplasmosis in a dose of 500 mg administered every 12 hours (the course dose of 5 g) resulted in eradication of ureaplasma in 71.4 per cent of the patients. The efficacy of the chlamydiosis treatment in the course dose of 10 g (500 mg every 12 hours) amounted to 88 per cent.

[Ofloxacin and ciprofloxacin in the treatment of sexually-transmitted diseases].

A complex clinico-laboratory++ examination and treatment were made of 76 women with inflammatory processes in the urogenital tract. Gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, chlamydiosis and Ureaplasma infection were detected in 60, 31.4, 41 and 14 per cent of the cases, respectively. There were affections of the rectum by gonococci, chlamydia, ureaplasmas and Trichomonas in 55, 32, 10.6 and 6.6 per cent of the cases, respectively. The frequency of chlamydia in the oropharynx amounted to 30 per cent whereas gonococci and ureaplasma were less frequent i.e. 9 and 1.2 per cent, respectively. The combination of the above pathogens in the rectum were the following: gonococci and chlamydia (15 per cent of the cases), gonococci, chlamydia and Trichomonas (7.3 per cent), gonococci and ureaplasma (7.3 per cent), ureaplasma and chlamydia (7.8 per cent). In the throat the association of gonococci and chlamydia was detected in 3.7 per cent of the cases. It should be indicated that the signs of sex-transmitted diseases were few, which required careful clinico-laboratory examination of the extragenital foci in the patients with inflammatory urogenital diseases. Ofloxacin showed a high efficacy in the treatment of patients with gonorrhea and ureaplasmosis. Its use in treatment of chlamydiosis proved inexpedient while ciprofloxacin was effective in the treatment of the infection.

[The preservation of strains of pathogenic Treponema pallidum in BALB/c mice].

A clinical and serologic follow-up of 307 BALB/c mice and 12 rabbits injected with the blood and brain and spinal tissue of mice infected with 5 strains of T. pallidum has demonstrated the possibility of a prolonged (up to 465 days) preservation of pathogenic T. pallidum strains in these mice, as well as the regularity of a syphilitic infection development in rabbits. This permits recommending T. pallidum pathogenic strains to be maintained in mice at laboratories of institutions for skin and sexually transmitted diseases where experimental and diagnostic studies with the use of specific serologic tests for syphilis are carried out.

[Immunoenzyme analysis with capillary blood in the serodiagnosis of syphilis].

The technique of enzyme immunoassay with capillary blood was developed to be used in the diagnosis of syphilis. Analysis of the assay technique with blood serum and capillary blood from 170 syphilis patients and control subjects has shown a high sensitivity and specificity of the more convenient and simple procedure with capillary blood.

[The dynamics of antibody formation in patients with fresh forms of syphilis treated by the single-course method with the novocaine salt of benzylpenicillin].

Investigation of the blood sera of patients with fresh syphilis forms before, immediately after, and in 6-18 months after treatment has confirmed a high sensitivity of the serologic tests for syphilis used in this country. The results of dynamic serologic monitoring of patients have demonstrated high efficacy of the therapeutic method used.

[The dynamic serological reactions after treating patients with early forms of syphilis by the single-course shortened reserve method].

A total of 156 patients with early syphilis were treated with tetracyclin and oletetrin. The drugs were administered 4 times daily (every 6 hrs) in a dose of 0.5 g (daily dose 2.0 g). Patients with primary seropositive syphilis were treated for 20 days, the dose per course being 40 g, those with secondary fresh syphilis for 25 days, dose per course 50 g, those with secondary recurring syphilis for 40 days, dose per course 80 g. The treatment was well tolerated by all the patients. Early negative results of specific serologic tests after treatment confirm the efficacy of the suggested method.

[The detection of Trichomonas vaginalis in the rectum of patients with urogenital trichomoniasis].

Inoculations of scrapings of the rectal mucosa from 53 women with various urogenital diseases and urogenital trichomoniasis yielded Trichomonas growth in Johnson-Trassel's medium in 8 cases. Vaginal and rectal cultures of 6 patients were examined by scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Vaginal Trichomonas were detected in rectal and vaginal cultures of 6 patients. Intestinal Trichomonas were identified in rectal isolates from 5 patients.

[The detection of the surface antigens of Trichomonas vaginalis by using the scanning electron microscope].

The method for the detection of surface antigens, based on antibody aggregation phenomenon, was used in scanning microscopy of T. vaginalis. After Trichomonas treatment with immune blood serum diluted 1:5000--1:10,000 aggregates were detected, consisting of subunits 30-80 nm in diameter, localized on the protozoal cilia, projections, and, less frequently, body. Analysis of the results following the material treatment with colloid gold-conjugated anti-IgG permits a conclusion that the detected aggregates are antibodies to immunogenic surface antigens of T. vaginalis.

[The therapeutic efficacy of a gonococcal vaccine].

The therapeutic efficacies of 2 gonococcal vaccines are compared. One of them is made from gonococcal strains selected for their antigenic characteristics, the other is a commercial vaccine prepared from a random sample of gonococcal strains. The studies have demonstrated a higher therapeutic efficacy of the former vaccine. This fact calls for the creation at production centers of permanent collections of antigenically full-value gonococcal cultures; such collections will help improve the gonococcal vaccine, standardize it, and enhance its biological activity.

[An ultracytochemical study of the hydrogenosomes of Trichomonas vaginalis].

The ultracytochemical study of cultural T. vaginalis has been carried out. The activity of magnesium-dependent ATPase, transport (sodium-potassium-dependent) ATPase and adenylate cyclase was detected in dense corpuscles, located on the membranes of hydrogenosomes having a rounded form. The authors suggest that the dense corpuscles are the zones of the active transport of ions through the membranes of hydrogenosomes.
