[Emergency operations in complicated forms of cancer of the colon].

Direct outcomes of 215 urgent operations for complicated forms of carcinoma of the colon were analyzed. Operations for acute ileus were performed in 147 patients, for perforation of the bowel and peritonitis in 45 patients, for profuse intestinal bleedings in 23 patients. The lethality after the urgent operations was 32.5%. Operations with the removal of the primary tumor give better direct and remote results.

[Clinico-morphologic comparisons in villous and adenovillous tumors of the colon].

The data on 330 cases of villous and tubular-villous adenoma of the colon were analysed. The results of histological examination of resected material were compared with the evidence provided by clinico-endoscopic examination as well as preoperative bioptic findings. Since none of the above procedures proved to be of diagnostic value in detective invasive growth of villous tumor, it makes the case for total biopsy as the only reliable diagnostic procedure.

[Possibilities of the local removal of villous tumors of the large intestine].

The study was concerned with the long-term results of local removal of villous tumors of large bowel in 144 cases. A statistical analysis of the treatment results versus such factors as patient's age, size and anatomical pattern of tumor, tumor invasion, villous tumor multiplicity and the concomittance of the latter with tubular adenoma of large bowel as well as the procedure of local removal furnished fresh evidence in support of local intervention provided tumor is free of invasive growth. Radical surgery should be indicated in cases of invasion or villous tumor growing per continuitatem.

[Individual prognosis in patients with an edematous variant of breast cancer].

The probability procedure of Neuman -Pearson (method of maximal credibility) was used for the quantitative description of factors of prognosis of edematous form of breast cancer in terms of specific gravities . A complex evaluation of these factors was carried out. The reliability of prognosis made on the basis of the factors under study was as high as 79%.

[Economic aspects of the fight against cancer].

Social importance of malignant neoplasms lies not only in the fact of high morbidity and mortality rates but also in the economic damage. One half of males and females develop malignant tumors in their prime of life. As a result, the economic damage according to the materials of Omsk Province reports, in particular, makes 770, 6 rubles in skin cancer, 1010, 6 rubles- in cancer of the lower lip as calculated per one patient. But general economic losses due to malignant tumors in Omsk Province reached 20 818 483, 4 rubles in 1970. Taking into account these data on approximate value for the whole country will amount to no less than 3.4 billion rubles.

[Extent of the surgical intervention for the purpose of ovariectomy in breast cancer patients].

In laparotomy of breast cancer patients to the end of performing ovariectomy a careful revision of abdominal viscera should be included in the general plan of the treatment for the principal lesion. This measure allows the recognition both of secondary changes in abdominal organs due to mammary gland tumor and the changes not related with the principal lesion but necessitating some widening of the extent of surgery.
