[Role of X-ray cephalometric analysis in planning reconstructive interventions in patients with combined maxillodental and facial abnormalities].

A retrospective analysis of case histories of 110 patients subjected to reconstructive surgery for occlusion abnormalities was carried out. The data indicate that complete correspondence of teleroentgenography to planned treatment was observed in only 34.5% cases; this correspondence was partial in 48.3% cases, and in 17.2% patients planned treatment did not correspond to the pathogenesis of the abnormality at all. The majority of patients in whom the diagnosis was in complete disagreement with planned treatment were subjected to maxillary osteotomy for mesial occlusion. This choice was based on esthetic preferences of the patient and stability of the results.

[The x-ray cephalometric characteristics of the mesial bite in adults].

The purpose of the study was improving the quality of diagnosis and planning of treatment of adult patients with maxillodental abnormalities (mesial occlusion). A method for differential diagnosis of facial skull abnormalities was introduced, a modified scheme of x-ray cephalometric analysis was created, an automated diagnostic computer software was developed, forms of mesial occlusion were studied and described and their classification created. A total of 211 adult patients with mesial ratio of molars were examined. The principal method of examination was cephalometric analysis of the lateral teleroentgenograms of the skull using an original computer diagnostic software. Causes leading to formation of mesial occlusion were defined and classification of the abnormality offered.

[The use of new biologically compatible materials in the combined treatment of periodontal diseases].

The authors analyze various orthodontic constructions used in multiple-modality treatment of periodontal diseases. Special attention is paid to combinations of direct fitting with prostheses and use of the novel osteoinductive and immunomodulating agents. Nineteen patients with periodontal diseases were treated. Removable splints, prosthetic splints, and other devices were employed. Special emphasis is made on the use of biositall M-31-a composition on the basis of hydroxyapatite and Algigel. All these materials were found to be effective at the stage of surgical treatment of periodontal diseases, particularly so in combination with immediate prostheses and sodium alginate-based therapeutic films.

[The dynamics of the basic autonomic body functions of patients during a consultation with the orthodontist].

Vegetotropic effects of several psychotropic drugs were studied, based on the time course of vegetative symptoms. Computer-based automated diagnostic complex, developed by the author, was used in the study. A total of 261 patients aged 17 to 61, afraid of stomatologic manipulations, were examined. Psychotropic drugs normalized the principal vegetative functions of the body. This fact confirms not only the psychotropic, but the vegetotropic effect of these drugs.

[An analysis of the causes for the occurrence of psychoemotional tension in patients in an orthodontic consultation].

A questionnaire-based study has involved 132 patients. The strongest sources of fear occurring in orthopedic clinical practice have been identified. They include preparation of teeth (for crowns, inserts, widening of the root canals), oral injections, obtaining of dental impressions, the doctor's conclusion about a poor dental condition. This points vividly once again to the necessity of the use of premedication, application and injection anesthesia, and psychotherapeutic preparation of the patient prior to the above manipulations for creating a confidential patient-doctor relationship.

[Patient assessment of the personality and professional qualities of the orthodontist].

A total of 119 patients filled a questionnaire. Its analysis revealed that women are more open to the dentist, though all the patients felt strained while seeing the doctor. Most patients highly appreciated personal qualities of their orthopedic dentists and showed high respect for them. Patients were generally well oriented in semantic features of the questionnaire.
