[Efferent link of cardiac reflexes with carotid labyrinth receptors in the frog].

In frongs, changes of sympathetic and parasympathetic discharges were studied in the structures of the efferent link of the cardial reflexes from carotid chemoreceptors. Both the acid and the alkaline fluids perfused through the carotid labyrinth considerably decrease the sympathetic and increase the parasympathetic discharges in the cardial branches of the vago-sympathetic trunk. Cerebral portions above the medulla oblongata exert no essential effect on the specific features of reflex changes of the efferent activity in the vago-sympathetic trunk. After separation of the medulla oblongata from the spinal cord, the sympathetic discharges do not change in response to stimulation of carotid receptors while the alteration of parasympathetic activity holds on.

[Mathematical modeling of movement of cilia in olfactory cells].

A mathematical model of the movement of olfactory cilia in different conditions was constructed. The realization of the model includes the development of a mechanical mathematical rheological model of the behavior of a continuous deformable medium, the development of the method of solution adapted to this problem, and obtaining a numerical solution, which takes into account different starting data. The mathematical modeling of the dynamic behavior of a deformable medium was performed using a system of equations for the dynamics of the deformable medium and the solution of the corresponding nonstationary system of equations in partial derivatives.

[Biological structures as photonic objects].

Samples of the material of mollusks bowls, peacock wing elements, and human horn skin have been investigated using the methods of spectroscopy, atomic-force microscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, and thermoconductance. Ordered superstructures were revealed in these objects. Evidence for effective interactions of both electromagnetic and electronic waves with these structures was obtained. It was shown that the interaction with electromagnetic waves reveals photonic properties and the interaction with electronic waves, the semiconducting properties of biological objects.

[Microelectrode study of the cellular reactions of the taste bud in the frog Rana temporaria].

Microelectrophysiological studies reveal two types of cells in the taste bud of frog which differ by the level of their membrane potential. During vertical implantation of microelectrode through the apical part of the taste bud, the potential difference in the upper layer amounts to 15 mV. Further implantation of the electrode results in a stepwise decrease of the potential difference up to 27 mV. Cells of the deeper layer are located 12-24 micron lower from the apical surface. Stimulation of cells by solutions of chemical substances is accompanied by cell depolarization, its amplitude being proportional to stimulus concentration. The steepness of depolarization depends on the modality of the stimulus, being maximum for salts. The data obtained suggest that cells of the second layer, with a higher resting membrane potential level, are taste ones.
