[Dynamics of neuropsychiatric disorders while engaged in occupational activities].

The authors performed a comprehensive study of neuropsychic disorders developing under conditions of occupational activity during a long (up to 6 months) voyage (n = 149). The disorders were shown to change with time and get more complicated from asthenic to unmarked affective ones (of hypothymic nature). A number of biochemical, vegetative and psychological parameters were found to change over time. The disturbances showed a rapid reversibility at rest.

[Reflexotherapy of neurologic complications in chronic alcoholism].

To alleviate neurological complications (extrapyramidal and hypothalamic syndromes, polyneuropathies and polyneuritis) associated with chronic alcoholism, 227 patients received different variants of acupuncture (classical acupuncture with needles, electropuncture, laser puncture). During the first three days, to control the abstinence syndrome, all patients received classical acupuncture. Further application of one or another method of acupuncture was determined by the degree of neurological complications. The treatment was most effective in a group of patients with polyneuropathies and polyneuritis, whereas patients with the hypothalamic syndrome proved poorly responsive to the treatment.

[Role of the abstinence syndrome in the development of alcoholic encephalopathy].

Using the complement fixation test cerebral antibodies were examined in the blood serum of 389 patients with alcoholism (Stage II). Patients with the alcoholic abstinence syndrome and those with acute psychoses of the abstinence period tended to display such antibodies significantly more frequently than the control group. This evidence points to a destructive organic (encephalopathic) nature of pathologic process in both cases. The use of acupuncture in controlling the abstinence syndrome is substantiated pathogenetically.
