[Hereditary effects on the rate of aging in humans].

Twin samples of various ages (154 pairs) were studied in transverse section and under longitudinal observation to assess the quantitative correlation of genetic and environmental influences on the age changes of 320 characters specifying different functional systems of the human organism: nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, immune, endocrine, locomotor, metabolic, somatic, and mental. An evidence was obtained for a decrease in relative role of inheritance and increase in environmental (both systemic and scholastic) influences on the age-related changes in various organs and body systems of humans in aging. Therefore, the rates of aging and health status in humans may be controlled to some extent by exerting selective influences on the corresponding environmental factors.

[Body build and soft tissue malignancies].

The distribution of somatotypes in 143 patients with tumors of soft tissues and in more than 980 apparently healthy subjects is presented. A relationship between this disease and body build was established. It was shown to depend upon sex, age and the degree of somatotype expression greatly. Men revealed a clearcut prevalence of the underdeveloped transitory somatotypes in all age groups, ectomorphic occurring in males under 44. In women, the number of pronounced endomorphic somatotypes was relatively high in all age groups, ectomorphic types prevailing at the age below 44 years.

[Interrelation of familial longevity and the state of the locomotor apparatus].

Relationship was studied between the familial longevity and age changes in the locomotor apparatus. According to the cross-sectional and longitudinal data, the individuals aged over 60 showed a decrease in the factor of familial longevity with pathology of the locomotor apparatus. Changes in clinical and objective data with age appeared to be more pronounced in persons whose families had no long-living relatives. The above changes were more expressed in men.

[Inheritance of human fingerprints].

Polygenic threshold model of finger dermatoglyphics inheritance is worked out on the basis of family and population data. According to the model, ulnar loops are subthreshold patterns, which transforms into whorl or arch under the control of SU and SR gene complexes. Epistasis-hypostasis interactions take place between genes of SU and SR complexes. Classification of phenotypes for finger dermatoglyphics is offered and the frequency of these phenotypes in three populational samples of Kiev is studied.

[Blood groups ABO, MN and Rh in diseases of the cardiovascular system].

Studies of theincidence of ABO, MN and Rh blood groups were carried out in 896 patients aged 40-89 with cardiovascular diseases and in 523 healthy people of the same age. High occurence of cardiovascular diseases was observed in patients having A and MM blood groups. The coefficient of relative morbidity A : 0 and MM:(NN +MN) depends on the age, the degree and the prevailing localization of the pathological process.

[ABO, rhesus and MN system blood groups and spinal osteochondrosis].

Genetically conditioned traits: blood groups ABO, MN and Rh were studied in 695 patients with osteochondrosis and in the population. Among the patients blood groups AB, N and Rh-negative were more frequent than in the control. Blood groups can be regarded as risk factors in vertebral osteochondrosis. Sex and age differences were found.

[Association between ABO blood groups and fingerprints].

The ABO blood groups and finger prints were studied for a population of 1170 persons (Ukrainians, Kiev). A statistically significant association was determined between these traits which were similar both in men and women. Maximal values of total ridge count and intensity of patients were found in persons with phenotype B, minimal ones, in persons with phenotypes O and A.
