[The characteristics of cardiomyopathy in different geographical regions].

Region-specific characteristics of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HC) and dilated cardiomyopathy (DC) were compared for 108 relevant patients living in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) and Moscow (Russia). Out of 49 citizens of Dubai 17 had HC, 32 DC, and 59 Moscow patients had HC in 23, DC in 36 cases. It was found that HC in Dubai tends to run a silent latent course, involving mainly basal septum and right ventricle. Apical lesions were more typical for Moscow citizens who also display more severe myocardial impairment. DC in Dubai produces weaker cardiac insufficiency and arrhythmia. Incidence of idiopathic and periportal DC proved higher in Dubai, while alcohol and virus infection underlie DC more frequently in Moscow.

[Complex evaluation of external respiratory function in patients with cancer of the lung].

Principles of complex appraisal of the function of external respiration were worked out on the basis of analysis of the mechanics of respiration with the use of body plethysmography and invasive examination of pulmonary circulatory dynamics and gas transport. The suggested method allows practicable appraisal of the mechanisms of oxygen transport disorders and identification of the leading link in the development of alveolo-respiratory failure.

[Effect of calcium-channel blockers on human thrombocyte aggregation induced by alpha-adrenoreceptor agonists].

A comparative study of the effects of calcium channel blockers nifedipine and verapamil on platelet aggregation in healthy donors induced by adrenaline. A partial agonist of alpha 2-adrenoreceptors clofelin and also clofelin in combination with the threshold concentrations of ADP inducing aggregation was performed. It was found that verapamil is a more potent inhibitor of platelet aggregation induced by adrenaline as compared with nifedipine inhibiting this process only at high concentrations. The aggregation-inducing effect of a partial agonist of alpha 2-adrenoreceptors clofelin is eliminated at low concentrations in the aggregating mixture of nifedipine than verapamil.

[Effects of low-frequency ultrasound on tumors cells in experimental animals].

The effect of low-frequency ultrasound was studied in different conditions in 197 in vitro experiments according to the histological form of the tumor. It was found that ultrasound with a frequency of 26.6--40.5 kHz, intensity of 2--8 Wt/cm2, and fluctuation amplitude of the end of the smooth cylindrical instrument-wave guide of 60--80 mcm caused destruction of the cells of malignant tumors of humans, whatever the histological form. Experiments with transplanted tumors--Zaidel's ascitic hematoma and sarcoma M-l of rats (202 rats) showed that after transplantation of a tumor cell suspension exposed to sonic waves for 5--7 minutes a tumor does not develop in highly susceptible experimental animals.
