[Experimental rationale for the feasibility of using sulacillin for the prevention of infectious complications of combined radiation and thermal injuries].

Concurrent radiation and thermal injury (IRTI) was simulated in Wistar rats. For prevention of the autoinfectious complications sulacillin, a combination of ampicillin and sulbactam, was used. The use of sulacillin was started on the onset of IRTI and continued for 7 days. The drug was administered intramuscularly twice a day. It was observed that the 8-day survival of the animals increased by more than 40 per cent and the statistical levels of bacteremia and bacterial endotoxemia significantly decreased. The experiments showed that sulacillin had no side immunodepressive effect and did not aggravate the affection of the blood system. The drug was recommended for further studies to provide evidence for rational schemes of antibacterial therapy in IRTI.

[Heterogeneity of the functional properties of macrocolonies of rat small intestine epitheliocytes].

The relationship was studied between the enzymatic activity of epitheliocyte macrocolonies of the rat small intestine and their size and the DNA synthesis rate. High degree of enzymatic differentiation was manifested by small colonies (1-4 mg) with a delayed 3H-thymidine incorporation into crypt cells. In macrocolonies sized over 5 mg with the normal DNA synthesis rate, the enzymatic differentiation was slightly marked. The evidence obtained indicates that epitheliocyte macrocolonies arising from individual stem cells have different functional properties depending on the DNA synthesis rate and the size of macrocolonies.

[Enzymatic differentiation and absorptive capacity of the epithelium of small intestine macrocolonies].

Research into the activity of the enzymes invertase, gamma-amylase, alkaline phosphatase in the macrocolonies of the rat small intestine has shown that each macrocolony has stringently individual functional properties and the predominance of one of the enzymes. The data have been also obtained, indicating different rate of lysin and leucin absorption by the macrocolony epithelium of the small intestine. The results prove the existence of a definite functional differentiation of epitheliocytes (macrocolonies) arising from the same stem cell of the intestinal epithelium.

[Radioprotective effect of pyrazolone derivatives].

The intraperitoneal injection of analgin (1000 mg/kg), antipurine (400 mg/kg), amidopyrine (100 mg/kg) 3 hours before the irradiation of mice in a dose of 800 R led to survival of 30 to 45% of the animals (against 12.5% in control) and to increase in the average duration of life of the animals that perished. 80-95% of mice survived the period of "intestinal deaths" (the 7th day after the irradiation) after combined prophylactic use of purasolone derivatives and cystamine before the irradiation of these animals in a dose of 1050 R. The radioprotective effect of pyrasolone derivatives given in therapeutic doses was less pronounced.

[Decrease in bacterial toxemia after radiation-thermal injury in the restoration of motor-evacuation function of the gastrointestinal tract].

Experiments were conducted on male Wistar rats to study the possibility of restoration of the motor-evacuative function (MEF) of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) after radiothermal injury (irradiation with a dose of 6 Gr+Stage IIIb burn). Changes in the development of bacterial intoxication in the injured organism were analysed. Restoration of GIT MEF in the injured rats leads to simultaneous diminution of the degree of bacterial toxemia which plays an important role in the pathogenesis of radiothermic injury.
