Studies of domain morphology in segmented polyurethanes by pulsed NMR.

A new technique based on the Goldman-Shen pulse sequence with varying preparation interval is proposed for the study of domain morphology of segmented polyurethanes. The results of numerical calculations of the magnetization recovery in different models of domain morphology show that the method provides new information about the domain morphology which is beyond the reach of the conventional Goldman-Shen experiment. A close agreement of the theoretical predictions with the experimental data on samples of segmented polyurethanes with a fixed molecular mass of the hard blocks and variable molecular mass of the soft blocks reinforces the above statement. The resulting structural parameters obtained by this new NMR technique are compared with the data from the small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) method.

[Immuno-physiological and hematological aspects of flight certification examination].

Revision of immunophysiological and hematological approaches to medical examination of flight personnel is the focus of this paper. Basing on literary data and results of their own investigations, the authors demonstrate the linkage between occupational impacts on flyers and alterations in the function of specific and non-specific body defense systems. Potential areas for updating flight certification examination procedure, i.e. development of flyers blood and resistance data bank, elaboration of objective immunophysiological and hematological criteria for assessing body response to standard functional tests, comprehensive evaluation of human reaction to exogenic agents and delineation of patterns of correlation between blood and anti-body indices, and other body systems.

[Patterns of the changes in the indices of B-system immunity in acute psychoemotional stress].

Psychoemotional stress induces in healthy individuals increased serum Ig and C3 subunit of complement. Response of B immunity psychoemotional stress remains within the limits of basic functioning. State of B immunity in psychologic comfort condition insignificantly depends on individual psychology. Uniqueness on individual immune reactions in psychoemotional stress presents depression of reserved B lymphocytes, which could be easily seen in people of controversial personality type.

[The adaptation of the human immune system during an ecological disaster].

This article studies the adaptative mechanisms of the immune system of servicemen in the Aral Sea region in response to the influence of unfavourable xenobiotic factors of the environment. The greatest homeostatic shifts were disclosed in servicemen of the 2nd and the 4th periods of service (6 months and 2 years of active duty correspondingly). Precisely these periods of selective service have the highest infectivity index. It is recommended to measure the volume of catabolic products of cell receptors (P-proteins) in order to obtain an integral index which could characterize the adaptative mechanisms of the immune system during the screening of servicemen in the conditions of unfavourable environment.

[The status of immunity in the victims of industrial catastrophes and natural disasters].

The influence of industrial catastrophes or calamities upon human organism is accompanied by the affection of the immunity system. The structure and manifestations of immunity disorders depend on nature of the disturbing factors in every concrete catastrophe. The affections of the immunity system may lead to the formation of secondary immunodeficiency which will require additional medical assistance.

[Relations between the indicators of humoral immunity and psychological adaptation of pilots].

Peripheral blood serum A, M and G immunoglobulins were measured in 123 pilots, 22 to 42 years of age, distributed in groups as to the degree of frustrational tension (FT), related frustrational tension (RFT) and frustrational intolerance (FI). Inverse correlation was found between the indices of psychic adaptation (FT, RFT and FI) and the M immunoglobulin content. No evident correlation was traced between the levels of the circulating A and G immunoglobulins and the psychological peculiarities assessed in the pilots.

[The correction of secondary radiation-induced immunodeficiencies].

The influence of the ionizing radiation upon the human organism is accompanied by the formation of the secondary radiative immunodeficiencies, which can be treated with the help of immunomodulating preparations of microbiotic, animal and plant origin, as well as compounds obtained by chemical synthesis. The comparative analysis of the various immunomodulators has shown that the peptide preparations of thymos and bone marrow, referred to the cytomedinum class (thymalinum, thymogenum, haemalinum) were most perspective for the correction of the secondary radiative immunodeficiencies. The scheme of thymalinum application in the treatment of radioactive affections of immune system is enclosed.

[A method of determining subpopulations of B-lymphocytes using a flow cytometer].

A method was developed for measuring human B-lymphocyte subpopulations with a flow cytometer making use of monospecific porcine antisera to FITC-labeled human immunoglobulins. The results of B-lymphocyte measurements with the traditional fluorescent microscopy and the suggested flow cytometry were in high correlation.
