[Substitutional relations in the expression of drug consumption].

The present paper analyzes the formal equivalence of expressing the consumption of medicines in financial and physical units. The study was carried out on a representative sample of population; for the sake of the need of analytical expression also the factor of the age in the consumption of drugs measured per 1 inhabitant was taken into consideration. A highly close relationship between the two specific variables is observed. On this basis the postulate of the validity of equivalence is formulated. The paper points to the stability of this formal equivalence also in the conditions of the action of the seasonal component and the pragmatic significance of the obtained results for pharmaco-epidemiological studies is stressed.

[Drug consumption of certain pharmacotherapeutic groups in relation to age and sex. Psychopharmacueticals].

The paper presents data on the consumption of psycho-active drugs in the urban population, which are expressed by the number of packages and costs. The consumption of the group of agents under study represents 6.2% of total costs of drugs within the framework of out-patient care. The results of a one-year survey have revealed that the curve of the consumption of psycho-active drugs for the whole population after calculation per one person possesses the shape of a 2nd degree parabola. Consumption of psycho-active drugs per one person is significantly higher in women than in man and it consistently grows with the age.

[Sex as a factor in drug consumption].

Based upon the hypothesis on the diverse dependency of drug consumption on the sex of population as its influencing factor, this relationship was closely studied. The dynamics of the dependency of large urban population has been analysed for a period of 4 years. Important differences in the dependency on sex and age have been found. The fine structure of this dependency including the analysis of its stability have been determined. The experiment was based on mathematical analysis methods.

[Health status of the economically active population and drug consumption. II. Analysis of drug consumption].

The authors pay attention to one of the indicators of the health status of the economically active population--to the consumption of drugs. The analysis was based on outpatient records on health and disease in a selected group of 2,080 patients (25.9% of the basic group) in relation to sex, age and work capacity. The drug consumption of persons unable to work was cca 40% of the total drug consumption, whereby a higher consumption was recorded in women. With advancing age the drug consumption in diseases not associated with work incapacity rises markedly. Age practically does not influence the drug consumption on account of diseases causing work incapacity.

[The effect of age factors on drug utilization in an urban population].

The present paper analyzes the consumption of drugs in the out-patient health care for city population in relation to age and sex. An automated information system of processing of medical prescriptions by means of computer technique was used. Drug consumption is expressed in the form of costs. The drug consumption for 1984 in the whole population of a city with more than 400 thousand inhabitants was evaluated. Population was divided into 17 age groups (5 years in each) always separately within sex. The results show that drug consumption calculated per 1 person up to the age of 30 is affected by age only negligibly. In the population over 30, drug consumption is markedly increased with age up to the highest age categories. Mathematical analysis has demonstrated that the relation of drug consumption to age expressed per 1 person is best portrayed by a second-degree parabola.

[Trends in drug utilization in elderly persons].

The aim of the work was to test the hypothesis that drug consumption, consistent with greater demands on therapeutic and preventive care, increases more in older people, as compared with the average population. The authors investigated drug consumption in old people during five-year periods with two-year intervals (1982, 1984, 1986). It was found that during these periods expenditure on drugs increased by 80.1%, although this population group increased only by 15.1%. For comparison the increase of drug consumption expressed in expenditure in the younger population (0-59 years) was 38.1%.

[Drug utilization in an economically active population].

The author pays attention to the drug consumption of the population, particularly of the economically active population. Special attention was devoted to an analysis of drug consumption in the above population group during periods of work incapacity. The investigation was based on used medical prescriptions. It was revealed that the economically active population participates in drug consumption by cca 50%, whereby the drug consumption of the population during work incapacity is cca 30% of consumption by the economically active population and accounts for cca 15% of the drug consumption of the entire population.
