[The prognosis of the professional fitness of sailors for action under extreme conditions].

The researches described in this article made it possible to substantiate a number of important professional qualities of seamen which are indispensable in extreme situations. Three professional categories, namely command duty officers, operators and specialists of the local posts were the matter of these researches. A combination of symptom complexes of individual qualities which predetermines a successful duty performance in extreme situations was disclosed. A complex of valid methods was substantiated for quantitative estimation of individual psychological qualities. On the basis of these symptom complexes the authors worked out the estimation criteria for prognostication of professional ability of seamen to act in extreme situations.

[Psychological personality traits and development of cardiovascular diseases in young men (results of a 10-year prospective study].

Cardiovascular abnormalities developed in 7.3% among physically and mentally healthy males aged 20-29 years after 10 years of practical activities that made it necessary to take crucial decisions under conditions of time shortage and information gap, to show determination and courage. The incidence rate for cardiovascular diseases was 38.8% among males with asthenic personality traits and 6.9% in those with sthenic traits (p less than 0.001). In persons with well-balanced personality traits, cardiovascular diseases were ascertained not to develop. The disparity between the psychological traits and those demanded by occupational activities is the major pathogenic factor as considered by the authors.

[The effect of alpha-tocopherol in a wide range of concentrations on the structural features of the lipid bilayer regions of endoplasmic reticulum membranes in the mouse liver cells in vitro].

The aim of the present work was to study by ESR-spin-probe technique the effect of the natural antioxidant alpha-tocopherol (alpha-tp) in vitro on the structural parameters (microviscosity, order parameter) of endoplasmic reticulum membranes of the mice liver cells starting from the concentration of 10(-3) mol/l and down to the dilution of 10(-25) mol/l. The stable nitroxyl radicals 16-doxylstearic acid (with the deep localization depth of 20 A) and 5-doxylstearic acid (with the surface localization depth of 8 A) were used as spin probes. It has been shown that alpha-tp causes the increase in microviscosity of the deep lipid bilayer regions and in rigidity of the surface ones at the certain concentrations. The concentration curves obtained have the polymodal shapes being typical of the effects of substances at ultra low doses. Using 16-doxylstearic acid it is detected the increase in the number of thermoinduced structural transitions and appearance of much more high-cooperative ones, as well as the increase in their effective activation energy with the rise of temperature at the supplement of different alpha-tp doses.

[Measuring converter for elastometric medical instruments].

According to thorough consideration of converting characteristics of elastometric instruments, the measurement error can be diminished by introducing in the measuring converter some regulation means for the angle of the moment of counteracting springs and an assembly to limit the radial shift of the converter moving part. Such a modification provides high operational and metrologic characteristics for elastometric medical instruments.
