[Hygienic evaluation of experimental samples of antimicrobial underwear containing hexachlorophene].

The hygienic examination of 12 samples of knitted underwear which contained hexachlorophene added during fiber formation allowed the selection of four types that can be used under poor sanitation conditions. Taking into consideration possible changes in the proportion of various micoorganisms during prolonged space flights, it is recommended to carry out a complex investigation in order to allow the use of the antimicrobial underwear by specific crewmembers during a certain period of time.

[Urine conservation by surface-active agents].

The antibacterial activity of surface-active substances -- catamine-AB, catapine B-300, GIPH-200 and Tego-51 was measured on the E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus cultures and anthracoid spores. The purpose of the measurements was to explore the use of the substances as urine conserving agents. Catamine-AB showed the highest antibacterial activity. Anthracoid spores exhibited the highest resistance to the substances; staphylococci were less resistant than E. coli. Investigations of the effectiveness of urine conservation demonstrated that catamine-AB at a concentration of 0.1% killed all Staph. aureus and E. coli. Therefore, it can be recommended as a urine conserving agent.

[Principles of the sanitary and housekeeping arrangements in space flight environments].

Significant changes in the functional state of crewmembers during prolonged space missions necessitate corrections to be made in the scope and methods of sanitation and housekeeping arrangements. Due to the fact that in space flight automicroflora representatives may acquire greater importance as possible pathogenic agents, procedures providing body cleanliness should include both physico-chemical exposures and direct skin microflora treatment. On the basis of pertinent investigations the authors have developed selection criteria and requirements for detergents and disinfectants that may be used in prolonged space flights.

[Study of the pulsation method for the hygienic treatment of underwear].

Hygienic processing of the underwear in a device combining mechanical treatment, forced pumping of the washing solution and wringing by compressed air can be used under special conditions. The basic parameters of the engineering process have been determined, viz.: the number of washing baths, temperature of the water, time of processing, etc.
