[Changes in enzyme activity in postoperative myocardial biopsy samples after surgical correction of late-stage rheumatic heart defects].

A direct statistically reliable correction of decrease of the enzymes with the initial state of the patients has been established in an analysis of 25 patients aged from 18 to 60 years in prosthesis of+ the mitral valve (n-9) and closed mitral commissurotomy (n-16). The enzyme activity after prosthesis of+ the mitral valve was twice lower that after closed commissurotomy. Activity of ATP-ase of myofibrils proved to be most sensitive to negative factors of operation.

Adenosine Triphosphatases

[Identification of type-II alveolocytes in cryostatic sections of human lungs].

The tannic acid-polychromic stain method (Mason et al., 1985) designed for the identification of the cultured alveolar type II cells has been adapted to cryostat sections of human lungs. Both biopsy and autopsy specimens obtained within one hour post mortem could be effectively processed with this method to visualize at the light microscope level the lamellar bodies, i.e. characteristic intracellular inclusions of alveolar type II cells.

Cytological Techniques

[Morphofunctional characteristics of the alveolar epithelium and alveolar macrophages in chronic bronchitis].

Quantitative histoenzymatic determination based on early autopsy material was introduced for evaluation of oxidoreductase and hydrolytic enzymes activity in alveolar macrophages (AM) and alveolar epithelial cells (AEC) of the lungs in chronic catarrhal (CC) and chronic purulent (CP) bronchitis with bronchopneumonia development in sites other than acute inflammatory lesions. AM hydrolase hypoactivity was recorded in both CC and CP bronchitis, whereas inhibition of dehydrogenase activity stood out in CP bronchitis along with disturbed activity of the key enzymes of energy and carbohydrate metabolism in AEC. Characteristic features were elucidated for relationships between the cells of the alveolar lining in various forms of chronic bronchitis. The findings suggest a conclusion on inhibited activity of AM in chronic bronchitis.

Adult

[Characteristics of the morphofunctional status of the tissue in the rat cerebral cortex in experimental renal arterial hypertension].

Activity of some enzymes in the cerebral cortex of rats with experimentally induced renal arterial hypertension (AH) was studied histochemically. Histologic data provide the evidence for the disturbances in water-salt metabolism in AH. Morphometric study revealed an increase in the specific volume of smaller microvessels and moderate decrease in the specific volume of bigger microvessels. Vascular markers show different time course of activity changes in AH: the activity of alkaline phosphatase increases, while that of alpha-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase remains unchanged. The development of AH is accompanied by the increase in succinic dehydrogenase activity and the decrease in the activity of lactate dehydrogenase in neurons. The changes in the neuron-capillary relationship arising in AH can be one of the possible pathogenetic factors in the pathologic process progression.

Alkaline Phosphatase

[Histoenzymologic characteristics of the human fetal pituitary under conditions of maternal hyperestrogenism].

The development of the fetus adenohypophysis analyzed under the conditions of high doses of sinestrol, administered to mothers, revealed certain morphofunctional characteristics in the group studied in comparison with the control. In normal pregnancy, a gradual increase in protein content and in nucleic acids activity are noted, as well as an increase in the enzymes in protein synthesis and transport within the cell. Under maternal hyperestrogenity, however, in the adenohypophyseal cells of 7--14 week-old fetuses, a decrease in the content of hormonal protein-precursors, nucleic acid activity, inhibition of synthesis and trnsport processes are observed.

Acid Phosphatase

[Cytophotometric analysis of proteins in human embryo hypophyseal cells in normal and pathologic pregnancies].

As it is known, formation of the adenohypophysis in the human fetus takes place at early stages of ontogenesis. The objective of the present work was to find out whether the adenohypophysis, already at these early stages of development, was capable to response to changes in the environment, in this case to those in the mother's organism. Two groups of the human adenohypophyses obtained as a result of artificial abortion were studied: 1) from fetuses which developed under normal pregnancy; 2) from fetuses which developed under pathological pregnancy (toxemia in the first half of pregnancy). The method of quantitative cytospectrophotometric analysis of simple and conjugated proteins of a various nature were used. The data obtained indicated to early appearance of simple and conjugated proteins in the cells of the anterior lobe of the hypophysis of the human fetus and to their definite dynamics depending upon the course of pregnancy. It was established that at early stages of ontogenesis the adenohypophysis of the human fetus produces a certain reaction to changes in the environment, in particular, to changes occurring in the mother's organism.

Female

Functional morphology of the bronchovascular barrier of the human lungs during various age periods.

Cellular components of the bronchovascular barrier have been studied in human lungs obtained after death of some patients with acute and chronic lung inflammatory diseases, hypertonic disease, atherosclerosis and chronic glomerulonephritis. Certain oxidative-reductive and hydrolytic enzymes, including NAD-, NADP- diaphorases, lactic dehydrogenase, acid and alkaline monophosphoesterase, ATP-ase, adenylate cyclase and nonspecific esterase were evaluated quantitatively after the histochemical processing of the specimens for the above reactions. Correlation analysis was performed for the bronchial epithelium, endotheliocytes, lymphocytes, plasma and mast cells, as well as macrophages and polymorphonuclear leucocytes. The results showed that there was a significant shift in some of the measured enzymic activities. Moreover, the correlations between different quantitative data were noted and these correlations changed with age. The increase in "rigidity" of the correlations in the elements of the bronchovascular barrier has been demonstrated during the process of ageing.
