[Regimens and efficiency of electromagnetic irradiation in patients with sarcoidosis of the respiratory organs].

The efficiency of different regimens of electromagnetic irradiation therapy (MEIT) was analyzed in cases of 87 patients with primary sarcoidosis of the respiratory apparatus. The study resulted in choosing the optimal MEIT regimens with regard for a form of thoracal sarcoidosis. A high efficiency and safety of MEIT, when applied in patients with sarcoidosis of the respiratory apparatus, as well as its advantages versus systemic corticosteroids were demonstrated.

[Diagnostic significance of immunity indices in children with local forms of primary tuberculosis].

195 children with tuberculosis and 25 healthy controls were examined to define diagnostic value of immunological indices. Measurements were made of IgA, IgM, IgG, CIC, LMIR, EIA at admission and at the edge of tuberculin sensitivity. EIA and LMIR were positive more frequently in children with active tuberculosis, in aggravated course and at the edge of tuberculin sensitivity. Evaluation of immunity, EIA and LMIR is diagnostically significant especially at the edge of tuberculin sensitivity.

[Causes of delayed detection of pulmonary tuberculosis].

As shown by analysis of 335 case histories, low alertness for tuberculosis among the population and doctors, underestimation of the clinical and anamnestic data, late and inadequate x-ray and bacteriological investigations are responsible for late diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis in primary care institutions. Measures to correct the situation are proposed.

Feasibilities of infrared spectroscopy of bronchoalveolar lavages in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.

The feasibilities of infrared spectroscopy of bronchoalveolar lavages were studied in patients with tuberculosis and cancer of the lung, which was based on recording the spectroscopic characteristics of phosphorus-containing products of cellular metabolism. The high integral infrared spectroscopic coefficient (over 0.8) is typical of proliferative processes, including tumoral ones.

[Effectiveness of chemotherapy in combination with electrophoresis and ultraviolet irradiation of blood in newly diagnosed patients with destructive pulmonary tuberculosis].

Efficacy of inpatient treatment was compared for 222 new-onset cases of destructive tuberculosis of the lungs. 86 patients received chemotherapy plus electrophoresis and UV blood irradiation (group 1), 136 patients received chemotherapy alone (group 2). Group 1 patients benefitted more; bacterial discharge ceased in 100%, destruction in 89% of patients within 3 months against 59% and 38%, respectively, in controls. Combined therapy prevents toxic allergic reactions and shortens hospital stay by 48 days.

[Sonoluminiscence of blood plasma in the differential diagnosis of tuberculosis, cancer and sarcoidosis of the lungs].

Sonoluminescent parameters of plasma obtained from 124 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, 57 patients with intrathoracic sarcoidosis and 39 pulmonary cancer patients were found different. The authors propose to use the standard integral index of sonoluminescence which proved significantly different. Utilization of DIS-1 apparatus appeared by 23-29% more efficient as it induced more intensive luminescence yet noted.

[Effects of tobacco smoking on the course of infiltrative pulmonary tuberculosis and effectiveness of its treatment].

Case records analyzed for 297 smokers and 141 nonsmokers with new-onset infiltrative pulmonary tuberculosis revealed strong relationships between smoking and the disease course, relevant treatment results. In smokers the disease took more severe and disseminated pattern with pulmonary tissue destruction and bacterial discharge. Involution of the specific process in smokers advanced slowly and prolonged hospital stay to 1.2 month. Discontinuation of bacterial discharge took place in 90.1% of smoking patients and in 100% of nonsmokers, the destruction caverns got closed in 58.2% and 76.4%, respectively. Educational antismoking activity and smoking treatment promotion in smoking patients with pulmonary tuberculosis are needed.

[Dynamics of radiological changes in the lungs after surgical trans-sternal occlusion of the upper bronchi in patients with tuberculosis].

Examination findings of X-ray dynamics in 27 patients with disseminated destructive pulmonary tuberculosis are presented. The above patients were subjected to a surgical transsternal occlusion of the upper bronchi after their admission to the Thoracic Surgery Department of the Gorky Regional Antituberculous Dispensary. The study of the X-ray data thus obtained in the immediate and late postoperative periods has demonstrated different versions of the dynamics of roentgenomorphologic changes both in cavitary formations and their adjoining lung tissue. The clinicoroentgenologic comparisons led to the conclusion that there were various cure types in operated patients with maintained air-tightness of the occluded bronchus stump. Recanalization of the latter resulted in the process progression in the excluded portion of a lung.
