[Care indicators for the body that procreates: nursing actions before, during and after delivery -- a contribution to obstetrical nursing practice].

This study results from dynamics seen as Scenes of Esthetical Production, which were accomplished with 28 nursing teaching and service professionals to answer the question: what is generated about the body in labor when we take care of it before, during and after delivery? A qualitative study was realized, which aimed to identify and discuss the actions accomplished at these moments during which the woman's body gives rise to another life. Three categories emerged: 1) The care of the body in labor: the (un)due invasion and concealed violence; 2) the (lack of) care for the body that (ex)pulses another body: the invasion and the expressed violence; 3) the (lack of) care for the empty body: "fatigue and solitude" "the violence of the abandonment". These categories indicated that there are forms of delivering care to this clientele's health, which should avoid violence against the woman's body in labor.

[Caring, researching and teaching: meanings and implications of nursing practice].

This article aims to discuss the problem of caring, researching and teaching in hospital nursing: general characteristics of Modern Nursing -- teaching and practice paradigm; characteristics of the Nightingale System. The research methodology was based on the analysis of fundamental care, research and teaching concepts in nursing practice, involving technical and gnoseological implications for pedagogical and research practice, which are illustrated through examples of hospital research. These entail repercussions for an epistemology of nursing. We highlight professional attitudes for the state of the art. The author evokes the need for disclosure, for efficient research methods and result reliability in (oncology?) nursing care, research and teaching activities. The conclusion points towards the relevance of nursing as a social practice and the problem of nursing activities in any area of care pragmatics -- whether in or outside the hospital context.

[About the theoretic, philosophical, epistemological bases of scientific research: the case of nursing].

As indicated by the title, this paper discusses the theoretic, philosophical, epistemological basis of scientific research--the case of nursing. The author points out the fundamental questions in nursing--science and art. Nursing is considered both as a social practice and as a profession that encompasses scientific practice and the construction of knowledge. Thus, Nursing is understood as a "science under construction" or as specific knowledge, even if it is imprecise and, therefore, on its way to become scientific due to its evidences. In other words, knowledge that is justified not by total precision, on the contrary, by the need to find answers to the question about raising the epistemological reach of nursing research results--its knowing and knowing what to do. The discussion emphasizes the crucial nature of nursing care.

[Fundamental nursing: predicatives and implications].

This work aims at describing and analyzing the concept of fundamental nursing, with the purpose to clarify the constitutive elements that can be applied to understand and expand this termination. In spite of being created in the 1970s at the Anna Nery School of Nursing, this concept was adopted by other Schools of Nursing in the country to designate a teaching program or a department. The author states in favor of this termination as a theoretical abstraction that is maintained in the practice dimension as an essential component of nursing understood in its totality. The author affirms that what is fundamental is not only the basic, but general, including professional actions of providing care to people and human groups. Fundamental is the character of "uniqueness" that transcends nursing in its totality, independently of the several categorizations, sectors and sceneries of professional action. It also represents the consolidation of nurses meeting with their clients in health or disease situations. The personal view is applied to elucidate predicatives and implications regarding the use of this concept in teaching and research.

[Epistemological constructs in sciences -- a contribution to nursing].

This study presents some critical reflections "about epistemological constructs in science", on the basis of concepts and preoccupations that are inherent to the scientific and technological advances that influence the construction of knowledge. In accordance with the methodological approach, nursing is seen as "a science under construction". The discussion and arguments focus on distinct aspects/traces of science, which define the nature and objectives of research and which broaden the view of objective knowledge and reality for the field of nursing. In coherence with philosophical and academic reference bases, the author uses the focus of discourse to emphasize/highlight the meaning of constructs as being consistent with the elaboration of significant theories or issues in a field of study and explains her intellectual position in relation to some nursing theses (Ph.D.), in an attempt to explain epistemological aspects of the construction of nursing science.
