Os subcalcaneum.

An 11-year-old female presented with a history of pain in the left heel. Radiologic studies of both feet displayed a bony mass unilaterally. This bony mass had been identified radiologically as being separate from the posterior portion of the calcaneus. Clinically, the os subcalcaneum displayed a syndesmotic attachment to the calcaneus. Removal of the ossicle rendered the patient aysmptomatic.

Organizing thromboembolus in the plantar venous arch.

The authors present a case report of a symptomatic organizing thromboembolus in the plantar venous arch. Surgical intervention is curative. A review of the literature as it pertains to venous thrombogenesis is presented.

Rapid ossification in a subunqual osteochondroma.

Osteochondroma has been described as a benign, slow-growing, cartilage-capped, bony outgrowth. It extends from the surface of the bone. The authors present their clinical findings and radiographic evidence, which demonstrate a rapidly growing subunqual osteochondroma.

Pyoderma gangrenosum.

The authors present a case report of pyoderma gangrenosum. Antibiotics may be indicated, but are not curative. A review of the literature is also presented.

Plantar fibromatosis: staging by magnetic resonance imaging.

Plantar fibromatosis is a slow growing nodular thickening that occurs most often within the central band of the plantar aponeurosis. Since the lesion is not encapsulated, clinical margins are often difficult to define. Inadequate excision is the primary cause of recurrence. MRI is a nonionizing radiation technique that demonstrates excellent definition between pathological entities and normal anatomy. This may aid in the preoperative planning.
