Successful bone marrow transplant for Fanconi's anaemia.
A 15-year-old boy with Fanconi's anaemia, who required four units of blood each month, received a bone marrow graft from his 9-year-old brother, who has HLA identical and compatible on mixed lymphocyte reaction. Considerable immunosuppression was used and bacterial infection was prevented by vigorous decontamination in a Vickers-Trexler isolator. After the graft the patient's blood counts remained satisfactory for nine months, but it took six months before qualitative immune function was normal.

Untoward effects associated with practolol: demonstration of antibody binding to epithelial tissue.
An antibody which sticks to the intercellular region of xenogenic epidermal tissue has been shown by indirect immunofluorescence to be present in the serum of patients with practolol-induced eye damage. These antibodies and those found in patients with pemphigus were compared for their ability to bind to isolated epidermal cells. Binding was achieved only with the pemphigus antibody, which suggests that it may have a different specificity from the antibody associated with practolol-induced eye damage.

The differential binding of antibody from the sera of patients with pemphigus and pemphigoid to isolated guinea-pig epidermal cells.
A method for preparing isolated epidermal cells using trypsin is described. The isolated cells retain the ability to bind antibody from patients with pemphigus or with pemphigoid in a disease-specific.
