[Qualitative and quantitative examination of bacteria found in aquatic habitats. 2. Communication: application of miniturizid multitest systems for identification and biochemical typing of bacteria using a multi-point method (author's transl)].

A large number of bacteria were characterized and identified using a miniturized multi-test system and an automatic inoculator. This testsystem is suitable for ecological studies to get information about the qualitative and quantitative composition of bacterial populations. More than that a biochemical typing of bacteria is possible.

[Qualitative and quantitative examination of bacteria found in aquatic habitats. 1. Communication: selective recording of bacteria during isolation on different solid media (author's transl)].

The quantity of bacteria taken from 8 watersamples and 46 slimesamples in the sphere of drinking water were examined using 15 different solid media. These media showed variations in total colony count and more or less selectivity against several bacterial groups. For the recording of as much bacteria as possible and as much different species as possible low nutrient containing media are necessary.

[Microbial settlement of paint- and building-materials in the sphere of drinking-water. 2. Information: experimental examination of bitumen paint under working conditions (author's transl)].

A bituminous coating material for drinking water reservoirs was applied on testing plates for a microbial examination. In function of the chlorine content of the water a microbial slime layer could be found on the testing plates. The amount of slime became less in course of the time or was not produced at all, when the plates were desiccated before the experiment for some months. A slime layer could never be observed on plates of asbestos cement and polyacryl as inert materials for comparison. Different microbial populations were observed.

[Microbial growth on an expansion joint of a reservoir for drinkingwater (author's transl)].

In a clear water reservoir built in ready construction after a working-period of five months quite a lot of slime could be found on the expansion joint filled with tightening compound on the base of Thiokol. The covering slime could be removed easily with a rubber-screen. The microbiological analysis showed an extremely high number of colonies and additional the slime was secondarily settled with Protozoa. An influence on the water in the reservoir could not be found out under working conditions.
