[The radiological examination of the detailed relief pattern of the stomach part 4 (direct comparison of the pattern in the pyloric canal with the histological findings as related to the problem of chronic gastritis) (author's transl)].

Following earlier work on the relationship between the micromucosal pattern of the stomach and chronic gastritis, a comparison was carried out between the appearances in the pyloric canal and the histological findings in that area. The presence of chronic gastritis could not be excluded, irrespective of the type of relief pattern. Normal gastric mucosa was only found in areas showing medium sized areae gastricae. Fundamental problems concerning the radiological technique are discussed as well as the evidence for the diagnosis of chronic gastritis.

[Mucosal relief patterns in the colon (author's transl)].

Various types of mucosal relief patterns in the colon were classified on the basis of 270 double contrast examinations. Ten patterns were distinguished. In about 60% of examinations a normal pattern could be recognised, consisting of fine linear or reticular shadows. All other patterns depend on a substrate of morphological changes, which may result from surgical anastomoses, from stenoses or from inflammatory changes.

Colitis, Ulcerative↗

[The interdisciplinary role of radiology (author's transl)].

Close contact with the other medical specialties is mandatory for diagnostic and therapeutic radiology. There is constant need for radiology - as for other specialties - to review its position in the scope of all medical specialties; specialties which can roughly be separated into three categories: specialty by organ, by disease or by method. Radiology would best fit into the "specialty method" category, similiar as surgery. Radiologic advice to other medical specialists concerning indication for a radiodiagnostic or radio-therapeutic procedure ist nearly as important as the procedure itself. The same is valid for joint tumor-conferences in radiotherapy and for joint clinico-radiological confereces in radiodiagnosis.

[Lymphangitis carcinomatosa of the lung in carcinoma of the prostate: frequency, radiological appearances and clinical significance (author's transl)].

Lung metastases from carcinoma of the prostate usually manifest themselves as radiologically diffuse lymphangitis carcinomatosa. Unlike the pathological findings, a radiological diagnosis is relatively uncommon. We have investigated this retrospectively in 230 patients; in 192, radiographs were available for study. In over 10% lung metastases were found, mostly in the form of lymphangitis carcinomatosa. In view of the bad prognostic significance and therapeutic implications of lymphangitis carcinomatosa, it is important to bear this in mind and to look for it radiologically.

[Total body computer tomography or the urogenital system (author's transl)].

Computer tomography cannot only produce transversal sections of the body, but also evaluate the x-ray absorption values of various organs and tissues. It was first used in the investigation of the brain and has influenced the use of traditional neuroradiological techniques. Computer tomography can be used in special cases of diseases of the urogenital system. It is especially helpful in the diagnosis of primary or secondary retroperitoneal processes and also for tumors of the kidney. It allows effective frequent follow up of various therapies and has no side effects. Also in the follow up of various tumors, this noninvasive technique can demonstrate possible recurrences. It appears however that the total body computer tomography will not replace traditional radiological technique. During treatment and follow up of malignant tumors of the urogenital system however it appears very helpful.

Adenocarcinoma↗

[The aid of bone scans in diagnosis of fibrous dysplasia (author's transl)].

Fibrous dysplasia of the bone does not only occur in childhood as commonly believed, but may also be diagnosed during adult life as a stepwise progressing disease. Bone scans are useful to differentiate active from non-active disease. Suspicious accumulations of the radio-pharmaceutical which may be detected by total body scanning, should be confirmed by roentgen examination as a more specific method. Bone scan is helpful in early detection of focal disease and may visualize lesions in wide-spread disease for further radiological workup.

Age Factors↗

[Micromucosal pattern in the stomach and colon--comparative study (author's transl)].

The various findings of the mucosal pattern in the stomach and in the colon are systematically presented and compared. It is remarkable that there are similar findings in the two different organs of the gastrointestinal tract. Five different relief patterns are described. Regarding the differential diagnosis and the possible therapeutical application, two forms are of special interest: one is the erosion-like pattern in the early stages of granulomatous colitis and secondly the granular mucosal pattern in the early ulcerative colitis.
