Selection for an increased rate of egg mass production under a 21-h light-dark regime was successful in reversing the decline in egg weight which had occurred throughout the previous history of this experiment, while retaining the ability of the flock to lay eggs at an acceptable rate under this abnormal regime.
A combination of low spinal anaesthesia using hyperbaric cinchocaine (Nupercaine; Ciba) 0,25% and local anaesthetic abdominal wall infiltration for caesarean section was evaluated for use in peripheral hospitals in the developing world. The technique described is not suitable for this purpose. Further research into this technique is desirable, and recommendations regarding an improved protocol are made.
No evidence was found for an interaction between dietary crude protein content and the presence or absence of two proprietary food additives used as sources of avoparcin and zinc bacitracin. The food additives had a similar effect in increasing rate of growth resulting in significant improvements of about 2% in the food conversion ratios.

The reactogenicity and immunogenicity of various strengths of plain and adsorbed Cl. welchii type C toxoid have been evaluated in laboratory tests and in man in Papua New Guinea. The greater antigenicity and acceptable clinical reactivity of a vaccine containing 50 total combining power units per 0.5 mm of adsorbed toxoid resulted in its selection for further field studies.
