[Edentulous mandible. Contraindications for placement of dental implants].

Between 1987 and 1990, 30 patients with edentulous mandibles have been treated by implantological means. 11 of these patients suffered also from one or more associated disease. The surgical procedure has been carried out without any complication occurrence. One of these patients presented an early osteolysis located in the implant bearing area. From a total number of 42 patients, 12 have been excluded from the implant treatment; 6 of them on psychiatric ground. In conclusion, the absolute and temporary contra-indications are distinguished.

[Basal cell nevus].

The main features of the nevoid basal cell syndrome, also called Gorlin-Goltz-syndrome, are basal cell nevi, jaw cysts, anomalies of the vertebras and ribs, and intracerebral calcifications. The diagnosis is often incidentally made by discovery of bilateral jaw cysts, as it was in the case of our patient and her family. The therapy is the complete enucleation of the cyst. The cavity is filled with homologous cancellous bone graft. Recurrence and little cysts are treated with the solution of Carnoy eliminating remaining microcysts.

[Verification of nosocomial infection chains with Pseudomonas aeruginosa (author's transl)].

With all 3 typing methods (sero, lyso, pyocin type) errors can arise. The pyocin test following heat curing can be expected to give the least erroneous results. This was demonstrated by a test of 200 non-selected strains which were grown within 4 weeks. The possibility exists that a single patient discharges several different strains simultaneously or in succession. These results must be considered when efforts are made to detect infection chains in a hospital.
