[Surgical treatment of avulsion fractures of the intercondylar eminence using ridged crossed trans-epiphyseal Kirschner wires].

Four patients with avulsion fractures of the intercondylar eminence were treated osteosynthetically by means of trans-epiphysial ridged crossed Kirschner wires at the emergency surgical clinic of the Solingen City Hospital in the period May 1984 to August 1985. In the case of two patients, who could be follow-up examinated, we found excellent results. The described procedure has proven to be technically simple and lends itself among other things to the secure feastening of flat, predominantly cartilaginous bearing fragments.

Adolescent

[Masticatory surface complex and stress on the prosthesis bed].

The reproducibility of a calotte-shaped movement with the Dentatus articulator was reported. A calotte mounted in the upper part of the articulator was read by a electronic pointer mounted in the lower part of the articulator during lateral excursions. It was shown that calotte-shaped movements are reproducible with an accuracy of 60 mu and that the condyle path inclincation and incisal guidance are more important than the Bennett angle.

Dental Articulators

[Plastic bonding material as the origin of mucosal disorders].

A case reported in which the patient complained of sensations in the musoca over a period of one year. Various other specialists were consulted, but the cause of these sensations could not be established. When the plastic facing on the upper anterior crowns was removed, the sensations disappeared. A metal-ceramic bridge was inserted, and the patient was fitted with a removable dental prosthesis containing teeth made of mineral substance and a base of injection moulding (Copodon). The patient is still free of complaints.

Burning Mouth Syndrome

[Filmsizes; physical-technical aspects of x-ray image recording (author's transl)].

Formats of full-size radiographs are determined by the dimensions of the anatomy to be recorded, the enlargement factor is always larger than unity. Given a certain film screen combination exposure and film-density cannot be chosen independently--whereas with X-ray I.I. fluorography this is possible. In the former case they depend on X-ray absorption, energy efficiency and the luminescent spectral emission of the screens in combination with the corresponding characteristics of the photographic film. The respective characteristics of standard film-screen combinations and those based on rear earth screens are discussed and compared. X-ray image intensifier fluorography is presented as a logical enlargement of I.I. fluoroscopy, in itself and indispensable tool in X-ray diagnostics. Its real or imaginary pro's and con's are elucidated.

Fluoroscopy

[The effects of occlusal changes on the supporting tissues].

Displacements of the condyle caused by preparations in the supporting area are reported. These displacements occur only if the second premolar is included in the preparations. They are ventrocranial in direction and increase in extent if the first premolar and the canine are included in the preparations. Values of up to 2.8 mm in carnial and of up to 2.8 mm in ventral direction can be observed.
