[Incarceration of the ovary as an unusual cause of chronic adnexal process].

Report on a rare cause of a pelvic mass. This resulted from an early stage of incarceration of one of the ovaries in a deep-edged fossa below the bifurcation of the common iliac artery and the ureter (fossa ovarica). The complaints of the patient had been intensified by a major of the uterine and ovarian veins on either sides.

Cytochemical studies on T and B lymphocytes and lymphoblasts with special reference to acid phosphatase.

Lymphoblasts from ten patients with ALL or stage IV malignant lymphoma were studied cytochemically and investigated for rosette-forming capacity with sheep red blood cells (SRBC) as a T cell surface marker. SRBC binding capacity and acid phosphatase or beta-glucuronidase were tested simultaneously in single lymphocytes isolated from normal blood donors. Our results suggest that the presence of acid phosphatase (and beta-glucuronidase) represents a functional state of lymphocytes or lymphoblasts qualitatively independent of T cell differentiation, but quantitatively more pronounced in T cells than in B lymphocytes or non-T lymphoblasts.

Light- and electron microscopic studies in hemoblastosis with CNS-disorder.

Some cases of hemoblastosis with CNS-involvement were investigated by methods of light microscopy, cytochemistry and electronmicroscopy. The unique cell picture, as observed by light microscopy could not be proven by electronmicroscopic results. This fact was supported by comparative investigations of inflammation processes. Typical structures are described and discusses.

[Hairy cell leukemia].

Chronical course, splenomegaly and pancytopenia are characteristic for hairy cell leukemia. The main feature are so-called hairy cells in peripheral blood. This cells were investigated by cytological, cytochemical, histological and electron microscopical methods. Special cytoplasmic inculsions seem to be specific for this cell type.

[Metastases of the choroid of the bronchial carcinoma (author's transl)].

Clinical and histopathological findings are described in 6 cases of chronchial carcinoma metastatic to the choroid of the eye. These findings show that especially in bronchial carcinoma, metastases of the choroid often are the first symptoms of the disease even before the primary site of the tumor is recognized. As these metastases often grow in a manner quite different from that of other uveal metastases, they are likely to be mistaken for uveal melanomas. Yet the right diagnosis is decisive for the right therapy. While in case of melanoma the eye has to be enucleated, x-ray therapy should be employed in metastatic carcinoma. Thus the patient can be prevented from becoming blind and from enucleation. The effect of x-ray treatment on the carcinoma cells in the choroid is demonstrated histologically in one of the cases.

[Gestation in patients with heart disease].

A brief report of the special management of pregnant women suffering from heart-disease has been given. There were 188 (0,72%) of all together 26233 deliveries in 170 women with heart-failure. Cesarean section by cardiological indications as a matter of course will be carried out only in few special cases. The management tends to vaginal delivery with shortening the last period by operating. In comparison with the period from 1946 to 1962 the mortality of the mothers decreased from 7,8% to 0,5% the mortality of the infants from 9,8% to 3,2% and the prematurity by weight from 25,5% to 8,5%.
