[Study of the relationship between pulmonary changes and blood plasma composition under the effect of industrial dust. III. Usefulness of the results of the studies for diagnostic purposes].

The paper presents results of statistic calculations enabling to define the diagnostic usefulness of results of determining free aminoacids in blood plasma for evaluation of workers' exposure to grinding and ceramic dusts and welding fume. Determination of proline in the blood plasma of ceramic industry workers and electric welders and determination of hydroxyproline in welders' blood plasma were found to be a particularly significant and early index of exposure to ceramic dust or welding fume.

[Correlation between changes in lungs and the composition of amino acids in blood plasma caused by industrial dust. II. Studies on workers occupationally exposed to industrial dust].

Results of determination of free aminoacids in blood plasma of workers exposed to ceramic and grinding dusts as well as welding fumes are presented. In the blood plasma of those employed in ceramic factory or welders a significant decrease of free aminoacids in comparison with the control group was found except for hydroxyproline, whose content increased during the 25 year-employment. In experiments on animals a significant increase of total aminoacids content in lungs with simultaneous decrease of free aminoacids amount in blood plasma was observed. Similar changes in workers' blood plasma make us conclude that aminoacids content in human lungs may also increase, which is indicative of fibrinogenic processes.

[Correlation between changes in lungs caused by industrial dusts and the composition of amino acids in blood plasma. I. Experimental animal studies].

Animals, used for experiments, were intoxicated intratracheally with a suspension of grinding, ceramic or welding dust, in a NaCl solution. These studies demonstrated that the ceramic and welding dusts, used in the experiment, showed a rather great biological activity. This has been proved by the increased weight of dried lungs, and increased total content of some aminoacids in lungs, e.g. hydroxyproline, which is thought to be a reliable index of fibrosis of the pulmonary tissue, as well as of the change in the morphological structure of lungs. Parrallel to the mentioned changes of the lungs, the content of free aminoacids in the animals blood plasma has been remarkably reduced. The results described in this paper prove that there is a dependence between the content of aminoacids in the blood plasma and the changes in lungs caused by dust.
