Trial of labour after a previous caesarean section in a rural African hospital.
A retrospective study is presented of 100 trials of labour after a previous caesarean section. According to the obstetrical history sub-groups are compared. Successful vaginal deliveries in the history were not related to a more favourable outcome of the trial, although less major operations were needed, the perinatal mortality was higher. Infection of the previous caesarean proved a risk factor for scar dehiscence.
