Preparation and evaluation in vitro and vivo of copoly (lactic/glycolic) acid microspheres containing norethisterone.

Poly (lactic/glycolic) acid (PLGA) microspheres containing 20% norethisterone (NET) were prepared and the preparation methodology was optimised. The microspheres showed a slow and steady release pattern up to more than 96 hours in 27.5 wt% ethanol solution. In vivo performance of the microspheres indicated that a single intramuscular injection of 80 mg of microspheres could significantly prolong the duration of estrus suppression up to 45 days in rats. In addition, the studies on the stability of microspheres showed that there was no significant change both in the NET content of microspheres and the NET release rate in vitro after storage for one year.

Etiological investigation of farmer's lung disease: a serological study.

To confirm the main etiological antigen of farmer's lung in Dafeng County, Jiangsu Province, People's Republic of China, precipitins in serum from 30 patients with farmer's lung were tested with several strains of antigens. Reactions against two strains of T.vulgaris were shown in 46.7% and 66.7% of the patients group, which were significantly higher than in the controls, while the percentage of reactions against Faenia rectivirgula and A. fumigates were low in the patients group and had no significant difference with the controls. The results indicate that the main etiological agents were some strains of T. vulgaris. This finding was consistent with the microbiological study of sputum of the patients and moldy hay samples from the working area.

Informativeness of VNTR genetic markers for detecting chimerism after bone marrow transplantation.

We tested the feasibility and practicability of using VNTR-type DNA genetic markers to identify chimerism in the bone marrow of patients following bone marrow transplantation. We selected eight probes which were highly polymorphic when hybridized to DNA digested with MspI. In over 50 donor-recipient combinations, autoradiograms of Southern blots yielded patterns which allowed donor DNA to be distinguished from recipient DNA after an average of two or three serial hybridizations. The strong hybridization signal of VNTR probes also made it possible to detect as little as 1 per cent DNA in DNA mixing experiments.
