Changes in the position of the temporomandibular joint following sagittal splitting osteotomy of the mandibular ramus with screw fixation were examined using computerized tomography. Ten patients were involved in the study. Rotational movement of the condyle-bearing fragment was most commonly seen in the transverse computer tomograms. However, the use of screw fixation seems to cause no major malpositioning of the condyle-bearing fragment.

The treatment of causes and complications of myocardial infarction is complicated by variable response to anticoagulants and inhibitors of platelet aggregation. No generally accepted principle for treatment of myocardial infarction is available at present. Following a literature review and after our own experience we suggest an immediate treatment of acute myocardial infarction with heparin and a switch to oral anticoagulants after heparin treatment of the acute phase. Three to four weeks after the acute myocardial infarction invasive diagnostic procedure should be performed. The result will lead to a decision about possibly extended therapy with oral anticoagulants. Left ventricular aneurysma e.g. would lead to prolonged coumarin-therapy. If no oral anticoagulants are necessary long term treatment with sulfinpyrazone or Aspirin plus dipyridamole should be initiated.

The challenge of research in family medicine is addressed in this paper by describing the rationale for research, appropriate content areas, resources available, and needs for the future. Family medicine has the opportunity to study health and disease in humans within their natural habitat over long periods of time, and to examine the multiple aspects of personal and family health care delivery. Resources for research include large primary care study populations, practitioner and faculty researchers, and technical support systems. The basic needs for the future are to increase the quantity and quality of researchers and to attract more funds designed for research. It is recommended that family medicine practitioners and teachers support research and participate more actively; that family medicine academic units provide their learners more research curricular time and their faculties more research activity time, and that they develop Family Medicine Research Centers; that family medicine professional organizations raise funds to support research, promote research opportunities for their members, and communicate to others the research activities, resources, and needs of family medicine; and that the requirements for residency training be modified to include elective research opportunities.
The excellent properties of the new substance eprazinone-dihydrochloride (Eftapan) was demonstrated in a double-blind trial. This agent showed marked secretolytic and bronchial spasmodic properties, further antitussive action and pain relief in the bronchial system. These effects were proven with the parameters of pulmonary function. The substance didn't show any side effect.
