Prenatal diagnosis of a neurenteric cyst by magnetic resonance imaging.

We report a case of neuroenteric cysts in which the diagnosis was made prenatally by magnetic resonance imaging. These neuroenteric cysts are developmental anomalies of the alimentary tract in connection with midline neural structures that are usually diagnosed in the first decade of life. Magnetic resonance imaging not only helped to make the diagnosis early, but enabled appropriate counseling of the mother and follow-up of the infant so that planning of surgery was optimal.

Protracted yet variable major pulmonary artery compression in sarcoidosis.

A case of thoracic sarcoidosis showing diffuse mediastinal lymphadenopathy was followed for a 6-month period with serial chest radiographs, perfusion lung scans, and pulmonary angiograms. Significant extrinsic pressure upon major pulmonary arteries from large lymph nodes of sarcoidosis was seen to cause marked restriction in pulmonary parenchymal perfusion on both scanning and angiography.

Bone scan evidence of renal osteodystrophy in undialyzed uremic patients.

Scintigraphy with the 99m-Tc complexes offers serveral distinct advantages to the nephrologist. The procedure is both easily performed and readily available, there have been no reports of toxicity, and the radiation exposure to the patient is lower than that of conventional radiography. We suggest that scintigraphic evidence of metabolic bone disease is present at the onset of terminal uremia with much higher frequency than is detectable by radiographs, and that unsuspected soft tissue calcification may also be detected on occasion. Therefore, 99m-Tc scans may be a valuable addition to the diagnostic regimen of the uremic, and should be thoroughly evaluated with more extensive studies, including quantitative analyses.
